Cat keep getting UTIs - what to do?

Thats good to know, I think I will ditch the kibble then.

Not much to add to the excellent advice, but jingles to you and your kitty!

Does she have just UTI’s, or do you also have sediment? I’ve had two males with bad sediment/bladder stone issues. Rascal’s bladder stones were finally resolved by putting him on Piroxicam and Flomax (human prescriptions in cat levels), and the Science Diet urinary formula. He did both of those for about two years, slowly took him off both, and he never had another one.

Just uti, no reports of anything else (crystals or stones or any other). It’s just figuring out underlying cause.

Tried walk in today and that was a big no. When I drove up the p-lot was full and they were already backed up. Very frustrating - we are under vet clinicked. I have plenty of info to task vet with when I do get appt. And the other clinics are closed for holiday.

body physiology does not live in isolation. All values are needed and potentially inter-related. Panels are less expensive than individual tests. All cats with renal issues, which all geriatrics have, need all of their electrolytes checked and these can become scrambled and effect other body functions, particularly muscles.

For ongoing , persistent bladder infections; urine sterile collected and culture, contrast x-ray to verify health of the bladder wall ( tumors, birth defects even though she is old) and stones. Other potential is issues with her uterine stump. If your regular vet cannot help with this, get with an internal medicine specialist

Yes, will probably wind up getting a full panel as most vets don’t want to do individual tests. You are right about the body physiology. We tend to forget about that. I have a hard time thinking her as geriatric even though I know she is.:frowning: Just trying to get more bang for my buck as it were because I am not wealthy and haven’t got $$$$$. Hadn’t even considered uterine stump. That’s an interesting idea.
