I had it filled higher than usual since I was gone overnight and she took full advantage.

Stinker.
I had to do the same kind of solution for my cat that loved to tip over his water bowl. I got a large crock pot insert and that ended the tipping over. But - he decided that wading in it was also fun. Or washing his paws after using the litter box.
I wonder what goes on in their ponky little heads.

Oh yes the water bowl! My two had taken to shoving it around and splashing water everyone. Eve because she’s playing and Oliver because he likes to bury his food and he’s trying to bury the water too. I got my heaviest book ends and put them next to the bowl and so far that’s working.

One of my cats eats with her paw by scooping up the kibbles, unfortunately sending more onto the floor than into her mouth. And for some reason the kibble is no longer edible once it lands on the floor 
One of my beloved late cats did the same. Thankfully they generally keep the wet food in the dish lol

One of my cats ate her wet food with her paw . It seemed to be food she wasn’t totally convinced was edible or didn’t smell just so? That kept the food farther from her nose. She was a messy eater. RIP Emmy.
Current cat is more akin to a Hoover vacuum. Once you find a food she likes, she is all over it.
