Cat scratch treatment anyone?

So another update in this saga. Started feeling hot yesterday, temp of 99.4. Went to urgent care AGAIN where there would be at least a 3 hour wait. Had to be at work so left. I will return again at lunch today since temp is now 100.9. Gah, so frustrated.

The weird part is the scratch is looking GREAT. Redness has way decreased around it, it has scabbed over, not oozing or hurting. Hopefully it will be a short wait today at urgent care.

Jingles!!!

Hopefully they can see you soon!

An acquaintance is a professional groomer. Scratched by a cat she was holding when a dog got out of his cage.

2 days later she was in surgery not knowing if she’d wake up with her arm…Flesh Eating Bacteria. Lost over 40% muscle in the arm, drugs and drains and was sent home. A week later, it had eaten a lot of her scapula, worked it’s way into her pleural cavity and another 2 weeks in the hospital. More drugs, more worry and no end in sight.

I’ll admit, I look at the barn cats with a different view now.

:eek::eek::eek:

I can’t even imagine, Trakehner. Thankfully, doctor started me on abx today with strict instructions to go to ER immediantly if symptoms worsen and for a recheck if I am not 100% in 7-10 days. No swelling, redness, fever, headache, NOTHING or I have to go back in. Cat scratches are nasty.

This is an IMPORTANT THREAD ! Most people are unaware of this DANGER !

A friend lost her son to cat scratch fever. He was a very healthy man and it was just a little scratch…a few days later he was dead leaving a heartbroken family and parents.

NEVER underestimate cat scratches.

My friend was told, if she had gone to sleep and wait until morning, she would have been too sick to know where she was or call for help by then and dead soon after, all in a few hours overnight.

For a bit, they didn’t know if her hand was salvageable.

I think people need to be scared of any cat scratches or bites.
Some of those bacteria are deadly.

I have been scratched by cats more times than I can count. Wash it with soap, if it bleeds let it bleed, and keep an eye on it. Usually it’s sore as heck the next day, puffy and red, but it starts to heal within a day or two. I’ve lived to tell the tale. Not all cat scratches are cause for an immediate trip to the doctor, like this thread would have you believe. You’re probably not going to die. Of course, in some cases where you start to feel sick after or if the whole limb gets swollen, go to the doctor, but in most cases you can save your money.
