Cat Trees

I want to buy my two cats a cat tree for Christmas. Does anyone have one that they recommend that is under $200? I don’t think they will use it if it wobbles at all so I need a sturdy one.

I’ve got this one. Cat Tree I have six cats (four when I bought it a couple of years ago). they love it, and there is usually one on it. It undoubtedly helps that I have it by the window that overlooks the bird feeders. I wouldn’t put it on carpeted flooring but it’s steady as can be on tile and I think it would be on any other bare surface.

I have this one-

They LOVE it. They fly up and down on it and to and fro. It is not uncommon to see fat little cat bellies whizzing past you in the air in the living room since they use it also for a diving board

I do replace them every two years. My first one I noticed getting wobbly after two years and then Tux launched one launch too many and tore off one of the top seats, pole, and unraveled the sisal while racing around the living room.

I have this exact same one! My cats both love it (and use it) but I have mine on the ‘catio’ (in all sorts of weather) and though it’s on a hard surface, it is super wobbly.

The base seems like it’s not big enough/wide enough for the height. But that thing has been abused by my 2 for over a year now and it’s in good shape still. I just find it wobbly - doesn’t bother my two a bit and it’s never fallen over!

When I win Megabucs I am buying the 7 members of the Siamese Mafia THIS cat tree

in the mean time they have several of these

they dig off all the carpeting on the posts eventually so have covered the damaged parts with leather.
My oldest tree is 5’ tall and about 8 years old. Looks nothing like when new…its had a rough life, but is still the most favored spot.

Do you guys vacuum the bark of your cat trees?

I love them, but it seems like the kind of masochism involved in the folks in Central NY who would buy a double wide on 2 acres of palatial lawn…… and then had to get on the damned riding mower every cotton pickin’ night after work.

Something just doesn’t add up…

Cat trees are bulky. If I had cats again I’d go for wall shelves which can add to the houses decor without declaring “yes, I am owned by my cats”. Also they don’t take up floor space.

We have two, made from actual trees with big wide bases, and are VERY sturdy. One we found used on Craigslist, the other we bought from the local “fancy cat stuff store.” They are in constant use and were worth every penny we paid for them. If you get it from the fancy cat store, you can pick the exact one you’re getting and make sure it doesn’t wobble, but you need a truck or at least a big minivan to bring it home.

And yes, we vacuum them every time we have the vacuum cleaner out. They get seriously gross otherwise. And Resolve carpet cleaner works on the inevitable puke they seem to attract.

I’ve had this one for 8 or 9 years and apart from the carpeted area looking a little worse for wear, it’s just as sturdy as the day I bought it.

(Ignore the mess, it’s the only picture I could find that showed the whole cat tree)

I had an Armakat one but it was wobbly and eventually the top perch broke off. My cats are too rough and just wore it out. They climb up the wood posts and hang off the perches like monkeys. lol

I got it at Pet Supplies Plus.

I got this cat tree at Pet Supplies Plus 8 or 9 years and it’s just as sturdy today as it was the first day. I had an Armakat but it was wobbly and eventually the top perch broke off. My cats are rough on them

I lucked up and found one just like it on Craigslist so now I have two.

I didn’t feel like separating the shelf pictures from the cat tree - sorry!

Eta - this tree stood up to twin 8 year old boys who decided they needed to climb it too while I was folding clothes in the other room! lol

This entertaining blogger recommends Bobs Cat Trees. She has Maine Coons and needed larger perches. For an item like this, you probably need a local provider. Vaguely, whereabouts are you?

I wonder how hard it would be to build something like that.

This is the one I have as well. The cats love it (heck, the rabbit loves it) and it is super sturdy. It handles even the fattest of our cats (25 pounds) and his antics, plus having a Springer Spaniel (40 pounds) jump on it when the cats are being too crazy.

Oh yes, Fat Edo the Cannoli Cat slings his 30+ pound chubberiffic self all over that thing!

Good spaniel!

Looks like the kitties in this house are getting an extra special Christmas!

I am in the Baltimore area.

My best, sturdiest cat trees came from cat shows. Built like giant boulders! My worst came off ebay where you get a kit and build it yourself. We also have people that sell them on street corners here - the builder does a nice job and they are quite sturdy. I find pet stores VERY expensive compared to cat shows, ebay, and street corner builders. I recommend that you see it before you buy it, too.

Bought a cat tree from Petco, one of the ones in the boxes that you put together yourself. They are 20% off for a few weeks! It is very nice and the cats love it.

Where is this Cat Mecca? Perhaps I should move there. Now, is the street corner Cat Real Estate affordable? How about the human real estate?
