I wish I had one! That would be amazing to have
We have a window catio. It is never without a cat or two; they love it to pieces.
I want to build one. I have the location and the size figured out just need to buy the supplies and get started!
Did you build it? Does it look like the one in the link?
I’ve got my house for sale, but when I finally get moved and settled I want to put one in.
Gary, are you doing a patio or a window box?
I screened in half my back patio (one level house). It has people furniture and cat furniture and both cats want out no matter if it’s cold or hot (100* here today and both of them are outside watching whatever happens to be out and about). It’s screened top to bottom so they have a great view of the world and each has a tall cat tree from which to survey their kingdom
Awesome cnvh! I see your cats put it to use right away. I love that it looks like it is part of the house. Good job.
I would love to be able to have one of these – but pretty sure HOA would have a fit. Maybe I can be stealthy and figure out a way to make it blend with a deck so they’d never know. My Garf has started to wander out onto the steps when I am letting the dogs potty and forget to completely latch the screen door. I need to get the dang door fixed and it will be a non-issue. He just goes to the stairs and sits there. Scared me a couple times, but he never has done anything but sit and watch everything.
Anyone with these have issues with outside animals coming up to the cats?
–ETA found a raised deck catio that looks almost like the raised deck I wanted anyways. Hmm…
A patio. The downstairs/walkout-basement is a dedicated cat area complete with multiple cat towers and cat shelves. I want to install a catio outside one of the windows. There’s an area underneath the master bedroom deck that would work perfect. I have it all designed in my head just need to finish some other projects before I get started on this one!
You did a great job! That is so cool how the access tunnel comes from the side of the house. I really want one.
I have several semi feral cats I feed in the back so I don’t want the catio to go all the way to the ground. I’m thinking more of the window one for here.
A friend told me about the catio a few years ago but I couldn’t get a builder to build one for my cats. I grew up in a big house with several huge screened porches for humans and cats and dogs, so I wanted something big enough to allow humans and animals to go out on it. Still trying to get one built to go between house and barn.
Just this summer, yes! It used to come around in the dark so I wasn’t sure what it was but I figured it was a neighborhood cat (some people let their cats out here - in the desert, seems sort of foolish to me) and then a few weeks ago, I saw what I was afraid it was - a bobcat! It was dusk so light enough to see and that sucker was very close to the screen.
I know when it’s out there - the cats start the low MWAH sound and get all fluffed up. It always runs away as soon as I go outside, thank goodness. Not sure it could get in through the screen but I wouldn’t want to test that theory. Cats get shuffled inside and stay in until daylight when that happens.
Now, when it’s bunnies and birds, the cats are super happy! If you don’t have bobcats around you, that would be a plus, lol.
We have a lot of coyotes and some have been spotted in close by neighborhoods and they are very bold. I haven’t seen any in my yard yet! Garf sleeps in my room so he’d only hang out in a catio during the day/early evening. Although, if I go with the one I want on the raised porch I doubt a coyote is going to be traveling up the stairs to mess with kitty. Stranger things have happened, but I have a feeling that area would be safe.
Our bobcat visitor came back yesterday in the middle of the day, coming along the back wall from my other neighbors house (the neighbor on the other side keeps racing pigeons so maybe that’s what it’s after). I wish it didn’t freak me out so much so I could remember to grab my phone and take a picture. We do have coyotes but I don’t ever see them around my house, though I do see them in our community at large.
I bet yours will be good with the height. My house is a ranch so I only wish I could have a high up catio
Love this for folks that don’t want to do a full on screened in porch. Our cats love our screened in porch and are out there a good percentage of the day.
