Cats of the Farm: The Pride Goes On

Inundated with cats on the Bench of Purring.

Another one appears. I was just pushing the keyboard shelf in and getting ready to stand up from early morning typing session and go feed and take my walk when a cat ran by the office window. White cat with a black tail, looked like somebody mixed up parts from two cats at the assembly plant. I’d never seen that one before.

Once I went out, I got a closer look at the stranger. I went looking for Cotton, who wasn’t on the porch for breakfast, which is unheard of. He’s always there waiting, then jumps to the rail for his elevated private greeting. Turns out, he was around a building in a standoff with the other cat. Not a fight, just a symphonic discussion.

The other cat is indeed all white (unless I missed a body spot in a quick glance) with a black tail. Also black ear tips, now visible from the front side. Very unusual and cute color scheme. Also fluffy. He spooked and ran from me, which ended that conversation because Cotton, of course, didn’t run from me.

I took my walk, and when I returned, Cotton was on the porch rail with an expression of exasperated patience. I gave him his usual elevated morning greeting and pointed out that the fact it was late was his own fault.

The changing of the sheets.

And in the woods with my faithful companion, Rascal.

Great morning for a bonfire. Calm (a rarity on my ridge) with dew. I have to watch for these days and take advantage of them; many, many days, you couldn’t pay me to light a fire outside here.

And an overfull and slightly askew cat huddle in a basket on the cat tree.

Rascal climbing into spring on our woods walk this morning. She goes up and down trees like a zipper. Not on command like Cotton, but she loves to climb.

Here’s Pumpkin through the window. Making slow progress. He saw me and didn’t bolt this time, although I have no doubt that if I were out there, he would. But he used to bolt just seeing me through windows.

Rascal at the entrance to the woods.

Bagheera, Rascal, and Cotton supervising pruning of fruit trees.

And, not sure if this will work, but will give it a shot. My waterfall from this morning’s walk in the wild, wild woods. We had heavy storms last night, so the nearby river is up. The river isn’t on my property, just off it, but I have four spillways running through my woods at higher water. This waterfall is on one of them. So it’s moody; sometimes totally dry, sometimes ripping, just depending on water level of the moment.

A spring study on the subject of cats and daffodils. This got fun. The cats were perfectly willing to come to the row of daffodils; I just had to be there myself. However, getting them to pose with said daffodils led to several outtakes. Cotton even checked out for a break against a tree at one point. These are the best I got. The last one is my favorite.

Tightening a screw in my chair. Yes, I officially had a screw loose. I also, obviously, had plenty of help remedying this situation.

Is the paw to steady your hand? That’s very cute - a supervisor AND a helper.

Neat picture that came up on memories today. Two years ago.

The refilling of the water dish, a popular last step each evening.

Yes, the water dish lives in the shower. That’s due to Solo, who is Madam Splashalot. If you can’t beat them, make it a non issue.

A little bit of my wild, wild woods. Rascal voluntarily takes walks with me in this, um, interesting terrain. Most days, anyway. She does maintain a bit of requisite feline unpredictability and occasionally stays home for the day.

I love where you live - so beautiful. You are lucky. That cracks me up that Rascal has to go with you - she is so brave.

I posted this picture of tulips today on the Quality Assurance chat string at work, which is 98% work-related, but once in a while, somebody posts a picture. My boss said, “Wow, even cats sprout in your yard.” The black cat is a flat metal art piece with stakes on the bottom that drive into the ground. I love it. Planted it right beside my front steps.
