Cats of the Farm: The Pride Goes On

Cory wasn’t eating this morning. She was in line for breakfast but just circled the plates.

I just called the vet back to cancel the exam under anesthesia next Wednesday. They will work her in this morning at 10:00.

Goodbye, Cory Cat. You’ve been a good one.

The vet said that was the return of very aggressive cancer. She had her diagnosed in one glance. No possible treatment. She did look in her mouth after and said it would have broken through the palate before long.

I’m so sorry. She looks like such a character.

One of my favorite pictures of Cory as a kitten. She was 12 years old, barn cat for the last eight. She loved the outdoor life, though, and wanted to stay out even though I did invite her back in a few times.

I must say, on a tough day, that I appreciate both my job and my vet. This morning when Cory was worse, I called the vet soon as I could. Of course, I’ve already had an extensive conversation with them about her earlier this week, and she was on the surgery schedule for next week for exam under anesthesia and going from there. But I told them I needed to cancel that and we needed to just put her to sleep. Enough. This is the end of the line. The receptionist put me on hold to go talk to the doc doing small animal surgery this morning (they don’t have office appointments until the afternoon; the place was deserted of patients when I got there), then came back and said she’d see me at 10:00, which actually just left enough time for me to get the cat caught and drive to town. Basically zero delay. Of course, they have known me and my critters for 20 years, but I do appreciate them taking me seriously when I said I wanted to end things ASAP.

Then work. I literally told them, didn’t ask them but told them, that I was leaving to take the cat to the vet and would be gone a few hours. No advance notice at all, just sent out a message to the management IM thread that I’d be back later, bye. Fridays are very busy days, too. But nobody has said anything the rest of the day about me just up and leaving. Okay, if I needed to be gone, fine.

Both of those entities made a tough day a bit easier.

Very sorry about Cory. Thank you for your continued updates. I always look forward to seeing and hearing about your pride.

I don’t come to COTH as frequently as I used to, however I [u]always[u] check this thread. I am very sorry to hear that the pride is one less in number.

I’m sorry @dressagetraks. You are an excellent pride leader.

It’s Saturday night, time to remake the bed. Note the one under the bed. The one in the blanket off to the side is Mary, marching to her own drummer as usual.

I am so very sorry that you have lost Cory. Knowing that you did everything for her will hopefully bring some comfort in these days of mourning. Prayers that you and the kitties will remember all the wondrous times you shared.

I was looking this feather shot up for another thread. Boy, was this a blast from the past. I’d forgotten how old this was. The dark Siamese is Tenuto. Pinto next around the circle is Cory (complete with her left ear still intact, way before the cancer, which ate into the middle of the ear expanding out, not from the edge). The lighter seal point is Coda. The blue point at bottom is HRH Rosalind.

RIP, ladies.

Cotton with my friend’s rose a few days ago.

And from my walk this morning, I had some unexpected company. Rascal was a bit miffed.

An entire room of the house designated as my library: Lifetime goal fulfilled.

A glider for reading in that room: Even better.

A cat in that glider: Purrfection.
