So glad that Cotton approves, so far. Seems like he is the helper cat who must stay close by to oversee.
I think the ‘natural’ look of the wood goes with the whole aura and besides is paint inside a small structure healthy for the cats to inhale? Wouldn’t think so.
Agree, I wouldn’t paint it.
You can always lay down plastic/old stall mat that would be easy to remove or clean if it gets soiled.
Have you considered putting in a bunch of baskets to make cat nests like we have for laying chickens? I recall one of yours loved a basket to sleep in. One of mine will find folded or rumpled blankets to curl up on when it’s chilly- she makes
her own nest. Another one likes to get inside cabinets on the shelf or in a cubby hole compartment in the work room.
Inch by inch. It’s going slowly, but it is coming together as intended.
The two horizontal pieces of 2 x 4 against the back wall deliberately extend out beyond the shelves resting on them. It might look a little rough, but it will be hidden inside the hut when completed, and that back wall is made out of two pieces of plywood. I had to cut it in half to get it in the Focus. So the 2 x 4s going clear across the joining and nailed to the back on each side of it help to reinforce the structure and make things stronger.
So you can see the shelves/cubbies now. There are two shelves, staggered, and four cubbies below them with divider pieces between the cubbies. Front half (actually about the front 2/3) will be entirely open space. I figure that’s enough area for them to get private if they wish or communal if they wish.
Also featured is one of my wonderful sunsets. Living on a north-south running ridge, I get great, unobstructed sunrises and sunsets.

Looks like it passed inspection, someone appears to have chosen their cubby.
So two are already using it!! Looks like they’re telling you they like your new shelter. That’s great so the shy ones may be
more inclined to hop in also.
Are you planning on ‘heat saving’ doors on hinges?
Slow progress. Tuesday and Wednesday are rehearsal days, so I probably won’t get a chance for another session on it until Thursday.

So far 4 interested! Love it. Even as is, it’s probably a good wind shelter. Interesting that they’re all so curious.
Actually, there are five in the latest shots.
#1: Bagheera, Rascal, Cory.
#2: Cotton.
#3: Satin, Cory, Rascal.
My 6 cats are interested in everything I do and love to hang out, until the staple gun comes out then they all scatter at the loud noise.
I’m slowly buy surely starting my Xmas decorating and they’ll all be there to supervise.
I’m a ginger cat addict and I loooove Cotton…he’s a big Buff Daddy!

:love-struck: :applause:
More progress - with valued assistants and supervisors, of course. This is not done yet. Even the front will not look like this on final version. Patience! On the other hand, I’m glad the cats will have a little time with open holes like this to start getting used to them. The cats do fit and have tried out the holes already, but they were too fast for me to get a picture in the act.

That’s where my screwdriver went, I’ve been looking for it for weeks now!
Are you going to add a disco ball and strobe light so they can party?
For Cotton fans, it’s an older video, but here he is climbing a tree. He’s amazing. You can move him around from branch to branch, even. I have never in all my lifelong cats had one before who did this reliably. Many tree cats, but those kept their catly independence at it.

I think Cotton deserves some little ladders on the new hut so he can utilize his manly climbing abilities.
And I’d love to have this hut in my yard just so I could go to town landscaping around it. I’d even put in a cottage flower
garden leading up to it. I can just picture it now. Butterflies and bees and kitties.
Lol…red cats are clowns which is why I love them so much. They will do anything you ask them to and a chin scritch and an ear rub is payment enough.
Cotton reminds me of trick cats I’ve seen on TV. From your video it seems he’s just bursting to engage with you and follow
your directions and he aims to please. Maybe you have a future star in your pack? He needs ‘Feline Enrichment Sessions’ to challenge his little brain. Betcha he’d even jump obstacles.
