Cat's tail de-gloved!! Advice/suggestions?

He’s back at the barn and doing just fine. I’ll try to get a picture to post.

He seems to have forgiven me already for being the one to stuff him in a crate and haul him to the vet.

I’m forever grateful to my winderful small animal vet (who used to raise Arabians, BTW) for doing the surgery & antibiotics for me for less than $200. He’s a great vet and a wonderful person, and I don’t know what I’ll do when he retires.

The kids at the barn had named the cat Zabu, apparently after a TV lemur character, because the cat’s long upright striped tail looked like a lemur’s tail.

His new name is Bob

Yay for Bob doing well! Is his entire tail gone or just the tip?

P.

Bless you for taking care of him. Im glad someone at your barn stepped up and gave him a chance. Yay for him already being back at the barn!

LOL, I recall the TV show with Zabu, really liked it.

And yes, my lovely cat with a long ringed tail turned into Bob…Captain Bob, since he loved to lounge on top of the ‘Minnow’…

many thanks to the vet!

He still has quite a lot of tail, probably 7". But his “original” tail was extra long, so we really notice the difference. I think he’s quite handsome with his bobbed tail, and he looks like a “real” bobcat, as their tails are not little stubs. He was a little wobbly on his feet last night from the remains of the anesthesia, and VERY hungry. We gave him just a little food last night, as we didn’t want him to have an upset stomach. A few days of antibiotics and he should be good. Then he just has to go back in three weeks to get the stitches out. The vet thinks he’s quite young, probably under 3, so hopefully he’ll be our barn cat for a long time.

My dog only has one eye and has a bob tail too (well, he’s a cocker so it’s docked) so he’s in good company! Glad to hear he’s happy and doing well! And kudos to you for being there for him!

The barn cat I did was christened “Stubby”, and was well loved by the boarders. He was retired to a boarder’s home when he got old.

The BO called me one afternoon and asked me if I would be willing to come over if necessary because some neighbor kid had stopped by and said Stubby looked just like her cat. Shortly thereafter an indignant woman drove in and accused Sally of stealing her Manx.
Sally told her that when Stubby arrived at the farm, he had had a tail, and she was pretty sure the vet who removed it would swear to it in court…

hinderella, you will have extra brownie points sometime in life for taking care of Bob. you did an extraordinarily good thing.
