Cellulitis, Stocking Up, And The Accident Prone Horse

@theresak my vet’s preference on probiotic is the Platinum Performance option. Powder, low volume (maybe a tablespoon ish?)

I hope your horse turns around quickly! Mine has bounced back nicely. Vet says she’s seeing a lot of cellulitis right now because of the flies.

@theresak I have a reply with a link stuck in jail, but until it shows up: my vets preference is the Platinum Performance probiotic product. It’s pretty low volume (maybe a tablespoon?) and powder.

She also said she’s seeing a lot of cellulitis now because of the flies :frowning: I hope you have a quick turn around!

Oh–your mention of winter scratches and abscessing sounds familiar. Mine too. Found a gigantic Lyme titer. We’re hoping this winter is better since we treated that. Perhaps something else for you to consider?

try adding excede and using naquasone. Ice boots also can provide some relief and help the swelling. wrapped when inside. Lots of turnout and moving around.

Today, the swelling was gone by half! Vet is coming tomorrow to run a Lyme panel. Yes, I am that owner that worries about everything. Hopefully it will be nothing. He’s still not sound at the trot though and that has me VERY concerned.

Yay on the swelling! And yes, definitely agree that the lameness is worrisome. Hope you get some answers tomorrow!

Swelling was MUCH better today!! Vet does not think he has Lyme. At all. 3 more days of SMZ’s. 3 days of Bute. Reevaluate. He was fairly sound today. Maybe a touch of a hitch in his giddy-up, but nothing like it was. He could have been shown and most people would not have noticed. I know him and know he isn’t 100% himself.

Thank you guys so much for the support.

Out of curiosity, why is the vet so sure on no Lyme?

Mine had no typical Lyme signs. We titered her for giggles. 17k chronic titer–highest vet had seen in awhile. Tested the other three–two were high enough to treat. I saw nothing in them that had me concerned. I’ll be testing yearly now :frowning:

But YAY on the progress!!!

Said he’s never seen it present with pitting edema in extremities.
