That’s super interesting! The ladies at the tack store said going up a size with the “plus” version was pretty typical because of the removable headband. I would definitely like to try on the Ayr8, but they didn’t have that one in the store.
In other news, Charles Owen responded to my query with really no answer. I explained the situation and the manufacture date and asked:
Is a five year old, unworn, helmet safe to wear? And what is the expected lifespan of that helmet if so?
And their reply:
Thank you so much for taking the time to contact us and for choosing our brand,
Regarding your inquiry, we recommend that a helmet typically has a lifespan of 3–5 years from the date of first use, depending on how frequently it is worn. The durability of the materials can also be influenced by how the helmet is stored and maintained, as well as how long it has been on the shelf before purchase.
If you are uncertain about the exact date or how long the store had the helmet in stock, we suggest contacting the retailer where you made the purchase for further guidance.
I hope this information is helpful. If you have any further questions, we are more than happy to assist.
Which…doesn’t address the question. So it seems they’re really not willing to say one way or the other.
Carousel did process the refund, so hooray for that.
