Charles Owen JR8 to which MIPS helmet?

Yeah, I don’t doubt it. They would be so much better served by being up front with it and pointing to the “clock starts when the helmet is worn” thing. Buyers could decide.

Oh well. At least I can return it. But still a bummer–the hard shell and vents are nice!

Why would anyone think to ask when a helmet was manufactured? What a dumb response from them. I had forgotten about Carousel- haven’t gotten anything from them in years. Stinks because now all the sales are done!

Alright just to continue this for my JR8 buddies…

The new JR8 (the “JR8 Plus” with the removable head band and little vents) fits smaller than the old JR8.

Because of course it does.

Going up one size seems to cover it. The inside of the helmet doesn’t feel as cozy as the old helmet. Maybe a good thing if you’re getting warm in it. There’s nothing between the mesh lining & styrofoam, and the lining is kind of slippery against the inside of the helmet.

My “old” JR8 is pretty old (older than I thought :grimacing:) so maybe this is not news to anyone else.

That’s interesting because I bought the Ayr8 Plus (after having an Ayr8 and a OneK). I didn’t find that the Ayr8 Plus fit differently, and I fit in the same size as previously.

I don’t know how different the JR8 and the Ayr8 are in terms of style and fit, but you might look at the Ayr8 Plus if you’re not satisfied with the JR8 Plus.

That’s super interesting! The ladies at the tack store said going up a size with the “plus” version was pretty typical because of the removable headband. I would definitely like to try on the Ayr8, but they didn’t have that one in the store.

In other news, Charles Owen responded to my query with really no answer. I explained the situation and the manufacture date and asked:

Is a five year old, unworn, helmet safe to wear? And what is the expected lifespan of that helmet if so?

And their reply:

Thank you so much for taking the time to contact us and for choosing our brand,

Regarding your inquiry, we recommend that a helmet typically has a lifespan of 3–5 years from the date of first use, depending on how frequently it is worn. The durability of the materials can also be influenced by how the helmet is stored and maintained, as well as how long it has been on the shelf before purchase.

If you are uncertain about the exact date or how long the store had the helmet in stock, we suggest contacting the retailer where you made the purchase for further guidance.

I hope this information is helpful. If you have any further questions, we are more than happy to assist.

Which…doesn’t address the question. So it seems they’re really not willing to say one way or the other.

Carousel did process the refund, so hooray for that.
