Have to say, I got curious and looked up Troxel’s website and their helmets are way nicer looking than the ones I remember in the late '00s up to the early 2010s. Some of the patterned ones are a bit too loud/western-looking for my taste but the actual helmet looks much nicer than the ones I remember getting at Tractor Supply in my teens/early 20s.
Great news!
I went to my local tack store and scoped out their helmet section, and they have a few of these on my list! So I’m going to go over when I have more time and do helmet try ons.
It’s not an oval. I have an oval head and just tried one of these. It pinched hard at the front and gapped on the sides - it’s definitely more for round heads.
I’m with you. I used to have a Troxel that iirc fit fine. Tipperary Sportage was round, though 5 years ago I tried the Sportage 8500 and thought that fit better than the original.
Troxel Liberty for everyday or any Trowel schooling helmet. For something that can go into the show ring (rated), I like the One K defenders which is about $100 over your budget.
Ultimately, I go for the fit. I want a helmet that fits my head properly even if that means compromising my budget. There are tons of options though that are quality without breaking the bank.
As the manager of a tack store, I highly recommend the Kylo. I’d happily give you a COTH F&F discount, but alas, they’ve been so popular that I only have smalls left in stock while I wait for CO to restock!
