Cheap Tracks

Money is better at Penn than here in MD. So I dont think Penn is a cheap track anymore.

Horses that run for cheaper purses DO get less spent on them. They may get more TLC and human contact, or they may not. There just simply isn’t the money to be spent on them when you are running for $1K. I would agree, in that case smoe people are just doing it for the fun of it and do have another job.

I have been at Beulah, when the purses were even a bit better. It’s a disaster out there. I dont know how they’re making it now.

I’d agree with Laurierace though- if we’re supposed to be making money I have also been doing something wrong.

It must be amazing to watch your horse run in Grove City, while the trainer of another rival hysterically screams “HEATHER!!!” as they come charging down the stretch. It was a scream of desperation, really. As if the poor lady wouldn’t eat that night if the horse didn’t get the victory. But then again, we ARE talking Grove City here…

Yip is reminding me of Hung when they first started posting on COTH…

Shooting is messy, I guess we can go with hanging.

You know what makes me laugh about this thread, the quality of horses which run in England for seriously crap money. One wonders why you’d race at all over there. Not to mention, you have to ship every time you run and that isn’t cheap. The only way you make money is gambling and well can and does go wonky.

Some of your so called cheap tracks would make people smile over here with the money on offer.

I really thank you all for your responses. I really wanted to read what others thoughts were behind this for I have wondered myself. To answer the question as to where is very well bred son of Dynaformer (who is also out of a Seeking The Gold mare) is running at for a low purse. It would be Greenelee County @ Duncan. He ran for a whopping $1700. Its just a shame, for a well bred horse as he is who came off one of the best racing farms, with a decent purchase price to be running way below his intended value! I guess thats why they say racing is a gamble!

At least he is running. Many don’t make it that far before they get injured or prove themselves to be useless in terms of being a race horse.

Fair racing can be pretty fun and a lot of folks race horses that they condition in their own backyards.
