Colic and vaccinations

I would try. I got the tip from my trainer who has a very sensitive mare in training - so sore for a week after shots she doesn’t want to walk or move. This worked for her so she recommended it to me - I have had much smaller lumps and no fever 2 years running now. It’s cheap and safe so I would try it!

After 40 some odd years I have had a horse colic within a couple of hours after vaccination. I called the vet who administered vaccs and she was back within a couple of hours. His colic was mild, lying down then getting up and pawing. Gave him Banamine orally and walked him until the vet got there.

She stated it was an impaction colic. Pulled out a lot of manure and then tube him. Instructions for me was to walk 15 minutes then rest a couple of hourse, rinse and repeat. only feed wet soup for the night. She insisted it wasn’t due to the vaccination but an impaction waiting to happen.
He was allowed to eat soup and gradually introduce hay again. He was OK after that.

This horse had never had colic since I had owned him , 17 years he is 20 now. The other two horses in the barn also had shots and sedation for teeth and were fine.

Incidentally one of my cats was ill for three days after vaccination. This vet also stated that it wasn’t due to vaccine.

Coincidence???
