Can someone post a forelock “puff” or “pom” picture? Not clear on what is meant by that.
Sorry if I missed a photo!

From the HITS FB page. Obviously for 4th July. There’s this one too, which is slightly overboard to me.
O.M.G.! Those are amazing Sarah616! I am amazed at this! Processing!

I got the same picture for both links? So not sure if I’m seeing the overboard one or not (seemed overboard to me, but everything about the 4th is!).
Idk what horse shows you’re going to, but some of the biggest barns in the country (Heritage, Stacia, etc.) are using navy blue on almost every horse. Looks so sharp on a bay or chestnut.
Take a chill pill. You’re at Auburn, not the Olympics.
If I make it to the Olympics, I’m braiding in pink sparkles. Damn it, at that point I’ve earned my right to have any color I want.
I googled for more colorful braided manes and came across an article about a braider’s award. Neat article and a few pretty pictures:

Aww. Boo Spicy Monarch:( Never meant to imply we were too good for colored yarn. Just confused!
Wish there were hunters at the Olympics! Until then guess we’ll have to keep showing in the Deep South. Ok with us. We have sweet tea and manners. Have a great day. Now to sleep!
I like navy on my black mare because it is sooooo much easier to get out. I just purchased some dark purple yarn with a tiny bit of sparkles in it for her to be braided in next weekend though… her name is Violet though so purple is a must
Wow, I have been away from showing at the big shows for a few years. I had NO idea about the coloured yarn thing at all because I usually did my own. Not sure if I like it, but the pom poms and busy forelock things leave me cold…
Back in the 70’s, we always used colored yarn…either matching the rider’s coat or using barn colors - not just for a lucky braid, but though the whole mane. This was done at the A’s.
Generally I match the mane color, although I like the navy in black manes as well. I also put in a lucky braid for some of the pony kids. That being said, I would never do a contrasting color without discussing it with the owner or trainer. If I was paying someone to braid and showed up to see some poofy thing in my horse’s forelock and it wasn’t for a holiday or some other notable cause, I would be pissed.
I’m not crazy about the pom poms, but can see where the pony kids would enjoy them.
I can take my own braids out by feel, but with someone else’s-- you never know if they do things a little differently. In a dark stall when I am fall over tired, I appreciate a slight contrast of navy on black mane or burgundy on chestnut so I can see the yarn better.
Always navy on my bays. So much easier to get out. And one lucky braid in white (7th from the top). My colors are navy/white/burgundy but it was never pompoms or anything like that. I’ve been braiding with those two colors since the 80’s. Never had an issue.

Here’s one of our bay mare braided with purple. It looked smashing.

Can’t see your picture. Is it public?
This past weekend at HITS Culpeper our braider used a REALLY cool yarn! It was black with just a hint of sparkle in the actual yarn. You had to really look at it to see the sparkle. It was very cute!
we have seen alot of colors here in Virginia but only on the ponies, and not the regular ponies. When we did childrens, we regularly had sparkly purple, or alternating colors through the mane. Was very cute and the kids loved it. When we moved the same pony up to the regulars, braider said only black for the “real” divisions (he was a bay).
Now on an A/O horse I would absolutely be requesting black, especially on a bay.
We have a dapple grey regular pony and I absolutely LOVE him with grey yarn… so classy, but he is just as often braided with black.
