Comfortable, durable hunting/event saddle...

Neidersuss, hands down

They make a little known all purpose, cross country type saddle. Deep seat, fat knee rolls and thigh blocks, all keep your legs right where they belong regardless of speed, terrain, or mischief! I bought a used one several years ago and it’s still wonderful, great leather, fits almost everything. It’s my default saddle for hard rides or tough or green horses. We call it the amazing butt sucking saddle because it just keeps you right in the middle almost no matter what. It’s very comfortable, and everyone I’ve met that’s ever ridden in mine has offered me a fair price for it, but it’s not for sale. Cool thing is, if you can find one, is that they aren’t terribly expensive. Mine was used when my husband bought it for me and it was only $700. It’s a great saddle to jump and gallop in.

2ndyrgal, I actually tried one of those Neidersusses (Niedersi?) Sadly, it wasn’t going to fit horsie at all. He’s a school bus in spotted clothing and that upswept panel behind didn’t do it for him at all. I should have remembered that I had a Neidersuss dressage saddle when I first bought him that I had to trade in because no matter how much flocking and fiddling we did it just walked up his neck. He does much better in a flatter panel. Damn shame because it was a screaming deal and in brand-new condition.

So, I’ve ordered a custom Yin-Yang GP from Heritage Saddlery in the UK, brown buffalo leather with black welting, all the knee rolls and calf rolls my heart desires, a cushy seat and my preferred billet system, made to measure for his Highness, and me. And for a very respectable price, I might add.

They tell me it will be here in a month. My saddle fitter and I await with breath bated.

I’ll let you all know what I think when it gets here…

We agree about the comfort and durability of the Jeffries Falcon saddle. Regretfully, ours is for sale, my daughter is off to college. Details: http://www.tacktrader.com/ad/496603/jeffries-jumping-saddle.html
