Confused about Charlestown Jockey Switch
NOW you got the idea…
Please tell me your kidding…
What you are talking about would not be dishonesty, it would just be a waste of time. This isn’t the Kentucky Derby with throes of fans waiting in line to bet. Its freaking Charles Town. They could delay the race a week and maybe take in an extra $10
Don’t knock CT purses …it’s a meal-ticket for some…

Ok you win. God forbid I ever run a horse at that hell hole again I will be standing in the paddock with an extra bridle just in case there is a run on the windows.

Who in the hell was talking about purses? Where do you come up with this stuff?

The total accumulated wagering pools/handle and slots revenue feeds the purses…yes, no? That’s how they get the money to draw horsemen from VA and MD and surrounding states right? That’s why racing at CT and/or Mnr, while grotesque and undesirable for some, pays the bills others because of slots-infused purses…

Nice…and what’s with the 'Mousse bandwagon here? Do you think he’s got a legitimate shot to sweep the Crown?..
I’m just praying for a SA Derby win. The Crown hasn’t been won in 20 something years. It’s going to take a miracle for a horse to win the Crown after horses like Big Brown and Smarty Jones couldn’t do it. Sweeping the crown is a stretch for any horse nowadays no matter how talented they are. And The Pamplemousse happened to pick a bad year to try. This is a very deep crop. Heck, if he wins one of the three it will be a miracle.

The drought is 30 years actually, 31 if this year is a bust. Smarty was the best shot yet. How could one imagine Big Brown’s big disappointment last year? Deep indeed, but then again they said Silver Charm’s crop was deep and he missed by three-quarters…

I’ll see you at the track…
Let me guess!!! Gambler extraordinaire!!!
IF a rider doesn’t like what he/she is sitting on, and the state vet isn’t really convinced ('cause we all know they scratch what they want) the horse will be returned to the paddock where the original rider and his/her saddle is replaced by a willing participant and his/her saddle. Tis how it goes sometimes.
Wouldn’t want to tip anyone off now would they…
WT hay???.. what is this, some wack azz conspiracy theory… IF there are a load of people standing in line to make a bet, the only delay is not a rider change or a late scratch the outriders simply have the pony people and rider take a little more time to warm up. Something that the track orchestrates in order to accommodate as much loosing of one’s azz as possible!
Let any race or even stake race be the example. The track isn’t going to turn away willing gamblers… Silly! It’s how they make money. Stupid people willing to loose all they have! Yay stupid people! And I willingly include my husband in that! Woooh!!! Yay gambler!
“Side transactions”??? Seriously???

Admit it, your a disgruntled fan and probably have more losing tickets than you care to share… added to that, you have zero knowledge of how things “really” work.
Dude uses a book… That’s all I am saying… this post, Smiley!!! Your fault…
I think some gamblers would crawl to the windows if they couldn’t walk:lol:
Dang they don’t have to crawl on their bellies anywhere they just have use ye ole cel phone and call the book. BUT make sure no one hears them… shhhh the horse is a price…

I am sorry, I am a meager westerner, but doesn’t CT have bunch o lil ole slot machines kicking about? What really does feed purses? I am so confused:lol:
How much do people really wager into live racing Yippy or is it Yappy? Is it money spent into the pools or pick 6 carry overs or slots that are making the purses so attractive? Maybe the sale of simulcast? Who owns these wind falls of money on wagering on live feed alone? God bless them!
If they are grotesque and undesirable? why do people run there… ?? Are the horses f*k’d up? Rider’s can’t ride??? Is Lumpy riding there again??? That lil SOB. He is a champion at heart, just misunderstood!
And I hate to add that slots don’t really carry the horsemen or racing much. Most slots are casino related not necessarily horse racing related. Just another venue to tap the racing disinterested. Usually slots create a better environment in the grandstand for gamblers to loosen their purse strings. While little to no improvement goes into the barn area or surface. Purses may jump initially but with Ft Erie as my witness… unless the slots look after the horsemen they will find a different place to be as the slot craze dies with the elderly people who play them on their pensions.

Less than 10% of Charles Town’s purses comes from the handle. If they waited 10 minutes each race they’d probably net another $100 toward purses a night…having the lights on for an extra 15 minutes a night probably offsets any potential last minute wagers they may receive when this situation occurs.

They do this all the time already…don’t you pay attention to the 0 minutes to post, yet they haven’t even reached the gate yet? And then the jockeys dismount and “we’re going to have a short delay” announcement? Come on…the equipment/jockey switch is just an added bonus…do the math…

Dang…this isn’t a forum for the over-forty-something-discontent housewife…please, if you’re looking to vent, the more appropriate venue might be a blog on “Working Mothers” or something similar…
