i won a Horze fleece cooler in Ocala last year. That thing is the most useful cooler I’ve ever had. It literally wicks sweat or bath water so well, it almost looks like it has condensation on the top of it when it’s at work. I would look into that. I don’t think they are pricey.
I have the Amigo jersey cooler and really like it - it doesn’t collect as much hair/debris as fleece and has less static/shock factor - but I don’t know that it would work well for a horse who gets really, really sweaty. I do always layer an Irish knit (cotton) under it, then pull the knit as it gets wet and basically use the Amigo as a light sheet to keep the horse warm while he finished drying.
For a really, really wet horse, wool is probably the way to go, if you can afford it. You’ll probably need to layer or swap coolers to get the horse completely dry, so you may want to buy two.
