Cooling Neosporin?

HA! She’s been wearing a neck cradle since she was released from being tied up (two weeks post injury).

Thank god she was at the hospital when they first tested her in it, since she promptly slammed her face into the stall wall and required two staples. :woman_facepalming:

She’s been good with it ever since; she’s a very intelligent horse - her problem is just that she reacts first, then thinks, instead of the other way around.

I joked on my updates yesterday on social media that she may have a giant hole in her flank, a scalded leg, and a black eye - but she’s alive, and that’s what’s important.

Thanks again for all of your suggestions! Very helpful for us, and hopefully anyone else who ever runs into this issue.

Just an update - we have our vet appointment Friday to get our staples out and visit with our trauma/ICU vet.

I ended up picking up a little 4 oz tub of “Aloe Heal” at the feed store last week - it looked fairly mild; a water based lotion base with a couple of added oils in the ingredient list. It wasn’t intended to be a permanent solution, just SOMETHING to try to give her some relief that I happened to see while getting shavings.

I’ll be darned if it didn’t work out way better than I ever expected. I kind of just hoped it would maybe relieve some of the skin cracking while we got a permanent solution together.

The photo on the left was Thursday evening, the photo on the right is tonight - four days later. I’m super impressed with the improvement. I’m already out of the 4 ounces so we’re moving on to actual “solutions”, but wanted to share the progress.

That is wonderful!

Wow! Looks so much better, looks so much less angry. And I bet she feels better.

Aloe is a weird wonder plant.

I’m glad she is doing so much better!
