Copperhead Snakes

I swear I posted this earlier, but apparently gremlins do exist…

Too bad you have copper heads and not water snakes.

If anyone else reading does have water snakes: water snakes are often pretty grouchy, more likely to bite you, especially if you happen to be between them and the water. Even though it won’t kill you, it still hurts. They’re also very athletic, they may not actually jump but it sure looks like they do when they strike. They also do a thing where they flatten out their head so they look more like a copperhead. Basically they are the angry chestnut mares of the snake world.

Also, funny video about danger noodles.

true story.We had a chicken coop in a stall which meant rats which meant snakes. We demo’d the coop but still had the snakes. once I found a rat snake eating ‘my’ nest of baby carolina wrens, it was war. We have a ‘rough made’ pole barn, so lots of hidey holes. I went up in the loft and poured white vinegar around each corner pole near the problem area.

That day we captured and relocated 8 rat snakes from one 12 X12 tack/feed area. Yep, 8. It was a nightmare scene lol.

@Gamma Thanks for the story - good to know. And I absolutely loved that video.
@TMares Sorry about your chickens.

You could have barn cats and just put their food in a container and not keep it out at night to discourage raccoons and possums. So many cats – many feral - that need a safe place and could be great to keep away rodents and possibly snakes as well as entertaining! JMHO – I am a rescuer BTW.

@TKR We rescue both dogs and cats and we’ve been focusing on keeping the numbers low. Over the years, all of our cats have been adopted and they were each special. When these pass (and hopefully they live a long time), we plan to foster. Having someone to drive to our place to feed 3 horses plus the 2 dogs and cat can get expensive. Plus I feel a little awkward having strangers in my home. Thank you for being a rescuer! You’re awesome!!!
