COTH Pony Finals Article

I don’t blame you, but the serious public heath implications of bringing so many kids to your state need to be raised by someone. The USHJA’s disagreement with USEF about going ahead with the show should be noted as well.

As of an hour ago Masks are now required in any public place in KY, the southern border remains open as do a generous number of of hospital beds Including ICU beds and 70% of the ventilators stand ready but currently unused. Positive tests are trending up while hospitalizations are remaining steady. Ky will be testing 100% of all nursing and extended care facilities, both patients and staff, in the next few weeks.

Got friends showing at KHP this week, if they have anything to share, will lass it along. There are just about weekly shows there between now and PF so theres some time to workout any kinks. Most of the Ponies show in the week right before PF so will know the routine. Time will tell but if nobody gets stuuuupid and everybody does what they are supposed to, its a reasonable risk. IMO. As of now.

I hope that PF won’t impact Kentucky’s relatively good COVID numbers. As we discussed, the Pony Final attendees will be coming from many different states, some with high rates of infection, and they won’t be spending all of their time on the show grounds.

Wishing the best of luck to all Kentuckians.

USEF has recommendations and requirements. I have not seen the stabling recommendation included in a show’s guidelines until this show.

I also have seen issues at other shows that a participant may have a family member or other “supporter” even if not a minor.

It’s in the COVID recs put out by USEF, section Q in the guidelines for show management file. So maybe not total protocol but every show I’ve been to (including HITS) has that requirement… now the enforcement? That’s a different story.

I can’t believe that they are considering going forward with PF this year. Yeah, were I a kid that was aging out I’d be heartbroken that I lost out on PF, but there is a opportunity for a important life lesson here - the best laid plans don’t always happen.

I missed out on USDF dressage national finals by .1% one year. S*hit happens.

We can’t get adults to follow social distancing rules and wear their masks, and we expect the pony kids to do so??

If there were a deadly equine respiratory Illness that was highly contagious and likely to lead to expensive veterinary care for many of the horses who got it, this would not even be a question. There would be 0 horse shows happening anywhere near a location where there was even a single case. Why is it that we value the health of our horses so much more than human welfare?

I would be disappointed with USEF and USHJA if Pony Finals was held this year.

USHJA sent a letter to USEF saying that they disagree with USEF’s decision and that they believe that Pony Finals should not take place this year.

Given that the pro riders can’t seem to get it right, how would they ever expect pony riders to get it right? Pretty brazen of USHJA to promote Geitner’s regional green incentive results with a photo of all three men all within close proximity with their gaiters around their necks and not over their nose and mouth. So are the rules “do as I say, not as I do?” This is clearly a violation, yet it’s on the USHJA home page carousel. It’s hard to take USHJA and USEF seriously when they don’t even take it seriously. I would be looking for a way to offer 2 weeks of PF next year, one for the 2020 qualifiers, and one for the 2021 ones.

Perhaps that is why the USHJA is against having Pony Finals this year.

After reading the Kentucky newspapers online, it seems that some folks in Kentucky are trying to stifle their Governor’s protective measures. It may ultimately be up to USEF to re-think this. They will look incredibly irresponsible when/if the participants begin to get sick. Children can and do contract COVID . What an absolutely reckless decision by USEF.

Moroney, we won’t forget your priorities during a pandemic, and how they certainly didn’t include the health and safety of USEF members and their children.

The AQHA Youth World show is happening July 29 - August 8 in Oklahoma City. This is an ALL INDOOR show, and previously sold about 2500 stalls. They have 13 and under classes, and the bottom age limit used to be 9, not sure now.

The protocols/lack of difference between the USEF and high end western shows has been huge, right up until now, with a regional Reining Futurity in Denver next week. That management has warned exhibitors that the City of Denver will absolutely shut down that show at a moment’s notice if USEF-type protocols are not followed to the letter. Masks and temps will be a first for those exhibitors.

Interesting that the Reining show is “not open to the public” but “family and friends” are OK. The number of spectators at Reining shows are not usually made up by members of “the public”. After reading the RMRHA website, I have a feeling that show will be shut down while in progress.

I sent an email to USEF expressing my opinion regarding their Pony Finals decision. Perhaps if enough people speak up… It can’t hurt, but I’m not holding my breath.

The latest from USEF https://www.usef.org/media/press-rel…e-at-usef-pony

Rest assured, they have the shopping procedures under control.

The COVID case numbers are trending upward in Kentucky. https://www.kentucky.com/news/coronavirus/article244226767.html#storylink=mainstage

There are only 6 States with a downward trend as of today.

I wonder if it’s dawned on Bill Moroney that when kids get infected, that it will be blamed on PF, and that could end up being a lawsuit? Guess who’s name will be first on the list from the attorneys?

On the news yesterday, they said that 60% of new worldwide cases are in Texas, Florida, and California. There are hot spots in surrounding states, all are blamed on travelers, vacationing at the beaches, and then going home. Having PF is insane, and people are going to die from holding them this year. Are parents so gutless they can’t tell their kids no? I’m afraid I know the answer to this.

I am guessing that anyone who goes to pony files has to sign a waiver of liability for the whole Covid thing. Isn’t that happening at most shows now?
