COTH True Confessions...

You know, is it any wonder why non-horsey people look at us like we are a few cards short of the entire deck? I’ve done almost all of the above and thought nothing of it. lol

I’ve tried every single treat I’ve ever given my horse, including her grain. One would think that I’ve learned, but those apple/oatmeal horse cookies smell so much better than they actually taste.

I have a boot problem. I currently have 4 pairs of riding boots, yet most summer days I hope on bareback with either no shoes or the dinky tennis shoes I wear to clean stalls. My mare has 3 full sets of polo wraps, 4 sets of bell boots (that she’s never worn), and 4 different pairs of boots - she currently only wears splint boots on her hind legs.

I also have a saddle pad problem. I hate to admit this, but I have 10 or so really nice pads. And, on top of that, I dress myself to match them. :o

I’ve taken my shirt off and hosed myself down in the boarding barn’s wash stall after riding.

Ok…I have another…

When I was a working student at a big BHS barn in Ct. there were some pretty big rats…bigger then I had ever seen here in Ga. Being a working student can make anyone go a little crazy - we worked HARD! After months of cleaning who knows how many stalls, I had a few of them named, and one would even sit on the end of my pitch fork and…let me pet him.

I don’t wash my hands at the barn even after using the bathroom. I wash when I get home. I will field piddle if I am grazing my horse and need to go. I always have tp or Kleenex. When I’m hot and nobody is around, I’ll take off my shirt or riding breeches and walk around the barn in my underwear. I change clothes in the parking lot. I’ve soaked my head and hair many times with the hose when sweaty. Definitely share apples or carrots with my horse. Bite off a piece of apple and give it to him if no knife is around.

I used to share my iced tea with my QH at shows. We’d also share apples.

I’ve peed in a stall because there was no bathroom and I really had to go.

When I was working at a dressage barn in NJ, I was known to dunk my head in the water trough when I got hot. I’d drink from the hose too.

I think I’ve tried just about every type of grain. My favorite was Equine Senior.

My favorite confession so far is the dropped Peanut butter cup. LOL!

I think I have done all of these things listed above - not so shocking to drink from the hose, jump bareback or pee in a stall. C’mon, we were raised in a barn! Of course we do those things.

I also have a saddle pad “problem,” I have about 8 pads (and only one horse). But I don’t think I’m done buying them. He also has 7 or 8 blankets and coolers - one for every variety of weather combination. Good thing my boarding barn has storage space.

When my Palomino got a scrape on his face and the black skin was showing…I discovered that my foundation makeup matched his coat color. So, I showed my horse in makeup. He used more than I ever did.

Oh, yeah, I have drank from my horse’s bucket, I don’t even scoop it up with my hand - just put my lips down to the water (after looking over my shoulder to make sure no one is around) - last night I didn’t have any water with me and was SO THIRSTY after riding - I was very very tempted to. But I am not sure if the water at my new barn is potable for humans - I need to ask! “ummm - is it okay for me to drink this water out of the hose / auto waterer?”

I was taking in manure samples for fecal testing the next day so I brought them home and put them in the refrigerator.
When my husband opened the fridge and pulled out that bag I said “Don’t look in there”. If he didn’t know me so well I think he would have had a coronary.

I too have pretty much done all of the above!

I also don’t wash my hands after going to the barn and then eating breakfast or lunch. If I’m cooking dinner for Mr. PoPo, though, I will wash up.

I kind of like cleaning sheaths. I get a sense of accomplishment from getting all the gunk out of there! (And I DO wash up after doing that chore)

I sing to Mac while trail riding . . . “I belong to you, you belong to me, you’re my sweetheaaaarrrtttt.”

I have shavings in my trailer on one side (where the horse doesn’t go if I’m hauling just one) and that’s my own pee spot.

I am sure I’m not different from anyone else here, but I’m pretty much obsessed with my horses. Even though I’m in my 40s I daydream about running off to be a working student or groom or cowgirl and being around horses and watching them all day long.

Self-confessed Saddle Pad Whore here too… Just succumbed to the latest HorseLoverz sale and bought two more: Blue and Stripes!

Also… gloves. I don’t know why but I must have another pair of crochet gloves in THAT color.

Nice to know I’m in good conpany tho!

I don’t think I’ve even peed in a stall or trailer, but I still drink from the hose, share food with the horses, ridden in tennies, eaten w/o washing up… hey, we’re all horse people here.

Saddle pads, gloves, for sure! Breeches in colors.

And rarely wash hands after barn chores/hanging out, grooming, etc.

Have any of you less-than-anal types noticed strong immune systems?

Horsepeople are tougher than dirt

I shared a tangerine with my horse last night - I got one section he took the rest

I went to college many years ago which did not, then, have a riding program. But I managed to take my horse with me. When I graduated I wore boots, spurs and breeches under my cap and gown as tribute to my horse who helped me keep my sanity so I could actually finish college!
I really love this  I might steal it for my own graduation!

Hello, I am a tack hoarder. I have crappy old dried up bridles from 40 years ago. I have four trunks mostly filled with useless stuff. I have four horses and ten saddles. I lost track of how many bridles. I have about 3000 saddle pads, 1000 bits, 50 pairs of splint boots, and 100 polo wraps. I may have exaggerated with the last few, but you get the picture. I have ointments and bottles of stuff I haven’t touched in years but I might need some day. Does anyone know if there is a Tack Hoarders Anonymous?

When I was a kid I roached my horse’s mane with the clippers my mom used to do my Dad’s brush cut…

I handled and groomed my horse last night wearing only my Crocs.

I know, I KNOW…but I did it anyway.
LOL for some reason I read this as you were ONLY wearing Crocs. Not sure where you live, but that sounds a little chilly for this time of year. However it would cut down on all the clothing I have in the wash that’s full of shedding hair.

Choco you need to get to know Ran-Dom Equine Designs-she does custom saddle pads, bridle sox, you name it. They are NICE.

Google “Ran-Dom” equine, her site is Facebook

I rarely wash my hands when in a rush braiding, I have tasted mane goop/showsheen/HHC while shoving a quick bite in between horses

When we lived in Oklahoma King scratched up his fetlock. We didn’t have a barn yet so I would tie our horses to our brick porch columns to groom/handle.

Anyway, I put medication on his scratches and suddenly it started to pour out of no where. I didn’t want to put him back out in the pasture until the medication had time to set. He didn’t need vet wrap so I just opened the kitchen door and sat on a stool with King in the kitchen until the rain stopped.

My husband and daughter were watching a movie 20 feet away and barely blinked.

He kept backing in and out of the door. It was funny.
