A friend of a friend in the good old days used to feed some to a horse for mental health reasons back in the good old seventies. Knowing the horse and with the advance in medecine I would say in retrospect that he had ulcers and it probably did something to the pain and made this highstrung citizen more manageable.
There are many things which contain the types of EFAs that support healthy myelin
I came to the forum today to see if anyone had any experience with the commercial hemp products for cats and dogs. I’ll tack onto this thread even tho it’s more about for horses.
I have this cat who has been seeming to be in some kind of discomfort, but haven’t been able to figure it out. He’s had a tumor on his belly that was removed surgically three times. Each time it’s been confirmed as non-cancerous and yet it grows back. The last removal was December, and I’ll not put him thru another surgery. So my assumpthion has been that he’s ailing from that removal, possibly even in a way not unlike phantom pains for patients who have lost a limb. Just becuase the tissue is gone doesn’t mean the body doesn’t interpret signals from it.
So the vet has had me try some meds, and the one that had the clearest effect is Onsior, very similar to Previcox for dogs\horses. Only that’s known to be rough on kidneys so I’m not allowed to give it more than twice a week. So for a cople of months we’ve been doing a pill every three days. The cat seems comfortable afor about a day and a half then starts coming to me complaining.
Last week, we started Canna-pet. I’ll be darned if it didn’t seem to offer him some relief! I was doing it just out of sheer experimentation and exasperation. So now he’s getting that every day, and the Onsior every 3 days, but with days 2 & 3 being not as bad as before.
I think I’d be happy to sign up for experimention with a horse if I had good reason for it.
very interesting all…
Well, the idea is that the cannabidinols other than THC (such as CBD) have a therapeutic effect without the psychoactive effects of THC. So, maybe it will do something? I don’t really know. I only know as much as this because I have some clients/potential in the business of making things with this kind of hemp and have had to investigate the legality of it since I would represent them in the area of federal trademark law. In any event, I don’t think we really know that hemp extracts that are weak in THC are weak in all substances that could have a therapeutic effect.
