Count Fleet's Grave/Stoner Creek
Count Fleet and Nevele Pride buddies? I bet that was an interesting dynamic! Nevele Pride is legendary for having been one of the meanest horses ever (male or female), and Count Fleet was quite the handful as well!
I have an ancient, ancient horse magazine from about 1975 or so that has an article about Nevele Pride. It sounds like he could only be handled with a stallion pole? Count Fleet I have no idea about, though I do have a wonderful book about TB racehorses that has a number of pictures of him. In any case, OP, I am jealous and would love to see pictures. I am a bit of a fanatic when it comes to gravesites.

I read that too - in a book titled “The Track” published in 1974. Our local library had it. Really good reading btw. Count Fleet used to wait for NP to show up in the pasture and got cranky and stamped his hoof if he was late!

Nibs, you and anyone else who’s fascinated by famous thoroughbred gravesites will want a copy of Lucy Zeh’s Etched in Stone, which covers that very topic. Lots of information about the horses, photos of both horses and markers, even maps that tell you where to find the burial sites.

The only book of its kind that I’m aware of, and very well done, I think.

BTW, here are the pics from the grave. I love the one of sunrise splitting the oak.

Lovely photos! Who’s the obelisk for?

The obelisk said Meadow Skipper.

There is another book by Dr. Deidre Durkis called “Where They Sleep: Burial Sites for Thoroughbreds in the Bluegrass Country of Kentucky”. It was self published, Durkis was an archaivist volunteer in 1998 at the Kentucky Derby Museum. I have not been able to find it so far but is was mentioned in Lawrence Scanlan’s book “The Horse That God Built”.

Also here is an interesting article by Barbara Livingston on Bulldog’s gravesite.

Stoner Creek and Claiborne Farm are/were 2 totally different entities.
My point; Treehouse @ Stoner Creek is right there (VERY) near the farms of Stoner Creek Stud/Huntington AND Claiborne.

Thay make arrangements to tour them.
