Opinions on my horse and how he moves please
Nice slow legs, but not enough length of stride for me. Would like to see him canter both ways to really make a judgment call. Looks like he might make a nice all arounder.
Thanks
I know that arena well…
Needs to stride out more…he looks like a tweener right now.
Agree,he needs to step out a bit more, especially in front. That will stop the schlepping along dragging his feet in a dust cloud. Probably be better suited there and happier,. Looks like a nice all arounder to me too, not a pity pat WP type. I like him, my type.
Good looking boy. I’d like to see his other gaits. His head seems low to me but I don’t know much about western.
He’s 15.3, if that makes a difference
Nope. Height really doesn’t factor into movement but that is a great height in general. Not too big, not too small.he just needs to brighten up and relax into moving forward. Try not to pick too much trying to get him to go slow, you want fewer longer steps and if you pick too much you get more shorter steps.
Hope that makes sense. Maybe somebody can explain better.
He needs more impulsion from behind for sure. I feel like he is falling down a little on his front end. I would put him in a snaffle and work on lifting his shoulders, as well as collecting him in the face, and driving him forward with your legs. I really do like his steady topline
Yup, you are riding just the front end, need to ride from the back forward. Better trainers can teach that. It lifts the shoulder when it comes from behind instead of pulling the front end back which drops them on their noses. It’s that pesky D word again.
He looks like a horse with potentially nice enough movement being ridden under tempo on the forehand on the buckle. Not sure what discipline this is for (English breeches and western saddle) or how an AQHA hunter is supposed to go if that’s what hes meant to be.
Super cute OP!! Agree that there is a bit of lazy in the way he is going. You’ll want to do exercises to get him to jump off your leg, and not a too much simply trotting around in a circle.
Is he an allocate your assets baby? Cause that’s my baby daddy  :love-struck:why is mine a giant though?!
AYA isn’t tiny at 16.2. Though maybe compared to some of the bigger jumpers you’re used to.
How is your boy doing?
16.2 is a perfect height. Mine is over 17h and the dam side is working horses haha he’s definitely bigger than I would have anticipated, but he’s super sweet and gentle and is literally chased around by miniature horses. He’s mainly spending the winter hanging out since I pulled his shoes and my schedule has been nutty. But I’m really happy with him thus far, and he’s only four so plenty of time to do grown up horse work.
He’s by Protect Your Assets
