Yay! Very happy for you and Carl. Hope his recovery goes well!

Yay for Carl! Please keep us updated.

UPDATE: One week into recovery complete. He is comfortable on stall rest and stands oh-so-nicely when I change his bandage. He does try (and often succeeds in doing so) to un-tie himself, but still stands like a good boy. When he stopped getting Bute a few days into his recovery I could tell he was in a bit of pain, and moving a little gingerly, but now he appears to be back to his usual self. Next Tuesday we’ll get to remove his sutures and go outside for a walk.

A friend has loaned me her BOT hock boots, and I’m thinking about putting those on him once the bandages come off.

Otherwise, not much to report. I’m just pleased he’s doing well on stall rest.

Good boy Carl…

Glad to hear that Carl, and you, are recovering.

Just checking on Carl eight months later?

Carl was euthanized on Christmas Eve. Long story short, the screw backed out so he required a second surgery to remove it, and more stall rest. Then about a week post 2nd surgery, the joint got infected requiring a 3rd surgery and a poor prognosis. My husband drove down that night to the university hospital and we said goodbye. Carl is now upstairs in the form of 40lbs of ashes (I wasn’t in my right mind when provided options for what to do with his body…) and I will spread them on the trails he loved so much when I’m able to say goodbye for the last time.

(((hugs)))

I’m sooo sorry for your loss. It doesn’t make it any easier but you did try for him. Plant a tree for him and put some of him there too. I don’t know why but that has helped me at least a little when I had to say goodbye.

Sorry dear penguin. But that was one nice chestnut today.🐎

Hugs to you. I’m so sorry.

I’m so sorry to hear that things went wrong with the surgery. It’s one reason I’ve come to avoid it both personally and for my animals if there is any other reasonable option.

My favorite vet had hernia surgery a month or so ago, got an infection from it, and has been the hospital for weeks. The last thing he told me before his ER visit for his infection was not to have surgery on my small hernia if I could avoid it.

I’m so sorry to read that update. Trying so hard and still losing one is brutal.

All the hugs and support in the world. You will always know that you did all that you could do.

I like to believe that at night the stars are really each good horse that has gone on before us. Godspeed, Carl.
