Current Dressage Bridle Trends

Personally I like the patent, but as far as bridle style & shape goes, it truly depends on your horse’s head shape and size.

My horse looks like a mule in a dainty rolled bridle, but looks great in the thicker noseband. He has a broad forehead, so a well-fitting U browband looks nice. I opted for one from blackjack refinery with is grey hematite and it is stunning - I’m not one for crystals or ‘bling’ so shiny agates or the like are my preferred choice.

I ended up getting a cheap Horze flash bridle that looks nice enough for lower level stuff. I plan on replacing the browband one day, but my gelding has a very narrow face.

The bridle I got: https://www.horze.com/bridles/snaffle-bridle-with-crystal-browband/CP1010.html?color=BL

Anyone else kinda hate when people use really thick nosebands on their dressage ponies? It makes their face look crowded and really short…

Caldene makes an adjustable drop that buckles on both sides of the top as well as buckling under the chin. Goes from fairly large to very very small around the nose! :slight_smile:https://www.viovet.co.uk/Caldene-Adjustable-Drop-Noseband/c25039/

OP - I’m with you on really thick nosebands. No bueno. I think, in general, the trend right now with dressage bridles is to have WAY too much crazy crap going on. The horse’s lovely face really should be the star. I also think thick nosebands tend to be really stiff and less comfortable for our equine friends, especially during the break-in period. I’ve had several horses make it quite clear they prefer thinner more traditional nosebands. Just my humble opinion as I’m all about quality and function over form.
