Boot jacks work. They used to be ubiquitous; metal ones sat by doorways.
If your boots are still difficult, see where the difficulty is, ankle, instep, whatever, and try to wear something that makes that area thinner and/or slipperier.

I recently picked up a pair of no-zipper field boots off our barn giveaway pile. In decent used condition. To my amazement they fit nicely. But I had to find my old boot jack and hang it on my stall front! The other thing that used to be ubiquitous was show horns
Fingers crossed the boot jack makes it easier. I have a number of shoe horns but these boots actually slip on fairly easily
The difficulty is the area just above the heel and a few inches upwards beyond that.
The boot jack worked flawlessly! wish I tried that before tweaking my knee trying to muscle these off my feet
Thank you all for the suggestions, I finally found a perfect pair of boots
