I don’t worry so much about critters as I do about glass and torn up ally cans.

I found an unopened bottle of beer once, and a pair of women’s underpants.

Me too, I worry more about strings and non-animal foreign objects that might eat and/or cut themselves on more than dead animals. But dead animals are plenty disgusting.
At that point I wouldn’t see it anyways and they would just have to sort through the bad parts , I guess.
We found the snake because when we opened the bale the dogs went nuts, biting & clawing at the bale ( round bale). It was fairly far in and well dried but the stink!
Your horses won’t eat hay that smells of rotting meat anyway. At least mine won’t. I wondered why they weren’t touching a bale and found two dead rabbits in it.
