Who is/was the COTHer who had a poem like this in their signature line?
Are you thinking of something along the lines of:
Roses are red,
Violets are blue
I’m sorry my horse
Stomped your roo
I can’t remember who it was.
Rebecca
That’s it! Thank you.
I don’t have it quite right. Instead of roses and violets, it was chicken breeds. Not being familiar with them, I don’t remember what they were.
Rebecca
I think it may have been
Rhode Islands are red …
And ended
Sorry my TB stomped on your roo’
Maybe. A bit of it sort of stuck in my mind at the time because i was at a barn that got in some Rhode Island Reds. But that was a long time ago, as was the poem in the signature line.
I found the original post! Learned a new bit of COTH lore as well.
Yay!! Thank you for posting it! How on earth did you find it? I finally gave up. You did good!!
ETA: New Hollands are blue too!
I used the search function with the phrase “Rhode Islands are red” - quotation marks included so it would search the exact phrase instead of individual words. Took me a few tries to get the right phrase. It was bugging me too!
I also thought it was p’Aint Misbehavin but a search for her didn’t work for me either.
Brava you!
Rhode Islands are red;
North Hollands are blue.
Sorry my thoroughbreds
Stomped on your roo.
I copied it, so you can get the full poem.
Thank you!
Fantastic! You found it! It was bugging me not to get the wording right (and obviously bugging @Rackonteur as well).
Rebecca
I was pretty sure it wasn’t her, as I think she lived not too far from me and we messaged a bit. I wonder why she’s not around any more? She was very nice and very knowledgeable.
ETA: When will I ever learn to stop trusting my faulty memory? I see it was her!
Rebecca
Funny, mine was terrified of poultry of any kind. The neighbor’s flock of guinea fowl wandered into our pasture and my gelding was as far away from them as he could be, butt up against the fence trembling with fear. Poor guy.
Guineas do make an awful sound I agree, but when out hacking, we would sometimes pass a house where there were chickens and he was terrified by them as well.
No fear of dogs (or snakes) but birds just sent him over the edge.
Do horses and other animals have phobias like some people do? IMO it makes sense that they would.
I don’t know. He was very suspicious of chicken/guinea/turkey appearances, but it was when they made a noise that he really lost the plot.
Poor pony.
I wonder if animals can have misophonia, like humans?
I really like “lost the plot”. Make i plagiarize?
It’s an old saying.
I’ve enjoyed doing those “what horse are you?” questionnaires over the years. IIRC none of them ever asked questions like “How do you react when a noisy flock of birds suddenly appears out of nowhere?” If one of the answers had been (A) “Loses the plot,” that would have been the horse I would have been.
OTOH I have no problem* with plastic bags.
*Other than the fact that they are taking over the world.
