@JoDjumpr what kind of bedding do you use? What kind of stall floor?
I am also in Canada - Saskatchewan so I know cold. I have wood floors in my stalls and bed heavy with straw. Every morning I go through the entire stall remove all wet spots and poops, then add stall dry and shavings. (This is usually to the center of stall) Leave the clean straw banked until the evening, so the shavings and stall dry can do there job and pull it back before I bring horses in. Certainly the poop is froze, and some wet spots in the straw but with a good pitch fork I donât have any issues.
Just clean them to the best of your abilities and when it starts to warm up a little, the frozen spots will pop right up.
I have a question about pelleted horse bedding. I use it 8 months of the year in 2 stalls, but in the winter I use it under small flaked shavings. When it gets under 25 degrees, if I make some up in my trolly, I use it the same day. Some times it sits in the trolly covered up, but this week it froze like a brick. Has anyone tried to reconstitute it with warm/hot water? I really donât want to throw out. I thought I would check here before I tried anything.
I wouldnât add water to try and thaw it out, that would make the whole mixture less absorbent. I would put the trolley in the sun and let nature take its course.
