Dealing with/ Preventing Underwear Sores

Oh and do NOT pop the boils. Epsom salts soaks and blowdry and they’ll be gone in a day or two. Don’t Ask me how I know

Barely there panties + keep your weight manageable + Monkey Butt powder and/or diaper rash cream as needed

No cotton, especially no cheap cotton with thick bands at the legs. What I’ve found most comfortable, with no shifting, bunching, or heat rash even in muggy mid-Atlantic summers, are underwear specifically made for outdoor and athletic wear. I personally love these from Patagonia, which are spendy, but fabulous; they come in a few other cuts, if hipster isn’t your style (though they are not particularly low-rise for a “hipster”).

I had a bit of a heat rash type thing at the junction of my leg/behind at my annual physical last year, and my doctor gave me a prescription, but honestly I don’t think it worked any better than just applying diaper rash cream and sleeping without underwear for a few days. Then I stopped riding in anything but the Patagonia underwear

well, I think that is the one thread I do not have bookmarked…

I was in a rush and the net was slow…

however…
whatever you do, do not get the seamless boyshorts from Haynes (I think)

got a pair of those…stuff is like glorified stocking material…worst bunching undergarment I ever had!

Going commando worked for.me too.

I had that problem with 2 different saddles. Once I got my current saddle, the problem disappeared. (both of the other saddles would also leave my more delicate areas rubbed raw…ouch.)

Ladies anti monkey butt powder, I’ve tried bodyglide too and THAT powder works better for me.

and Boy short underwear are the devil for me. I’m going to have to look into the compression shorts everyone has suggested.

I also run and have had the chaffing issue while riding and running now :frowning:

Draw a ‘T’ in anti-perspirant across the top of your buttocks and down to the top of the place where your cheeks meet. Apply desitin liberally between the cheeks. Pull on cotton pants inside out (seams face outwards) and attach a thin slimline pad. Just before you pull on all the way, add a liberal sprinkling of monkey butt powder. Use a gel pad seat cover on your saddle.

Body glide and Danskin Boyshorts http://www.danskin.com/product/3912/Team-Boy-Cut-Short.html or underarmour http://www.underarmour.com/shop/us/en/womens-ua-seamless-shorty/pid1227985-001

I have their boyshorts which are amazing.

I find in the summer important underwear matters more. In the winter I wear aerie boyshorts when riding, cheap and comfortable. It’s tricky to get them though since usually the kind I like are only available in the spring/summer. The winter has the more lacy, less practical stuff. The boyshorts I like are on their website now though!

Be careful when riding in a thong. The wrong thong can turn into razorblades on your delicate parts…you bet I am speaking from experience!

thongs will just give you rashes/sores in even more delicate places.
Commando works nicely.
If you have to go to the hospital, they’ll just cut all your clothes off you anyway and pop you into one of those fun gowns, so don’t worry about not having any undies on. Less to cut off.

Someone is going to have to post a link to the original “Inverness” thread… it has been mentioned so many times that a search of “Inverness” brings up no fewer than 10 pages of results…

BuddyRoo… know how you feel. Got bucked off and my pants caught on a sprinkler head. Breeches ripped, panties did not. I was hanging upside down by my panties. My Dad finally had to cut them off, much to my 12 year old mortification.
WHaaaaaaaat? From the … ceiling?

A nice soft material thong…and a good waxer!! And, for show days, I skip the thong and keep all the cellulite hidden with long spanx!
Jockey microfiber thong worked for me.
Second the vote for Jockey microfibre thong. They are the softest, barely there thongs on he planet. Unfortunately haven’t been able to find them on the market in Canada recently. I think I’ve scoured every possible store to scoop up the last of them.

Have a 2 week riding seminar coming up the first two weeks of March. I think I’ll be taking a few of the ideas mentioned above along with me just in case! I’ll have to retrieve “my” tube of Chamois Butter from my DH. I originally bought it for a 100mile/3 day bike trip we were taking. He thought I was silly – then he started training for a 100mile (in ONE DAY) bike race and I haven’t seen “my” chamois butter since.

This was my first thought too. One of the best COTH threads ever.

There are some really good suggestions here. My vote is compression shorts or commando.

I THINK this is the thread: http://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/showthread.php?35468-Practical-Protection-for-Private-Parts-or-Get-Thee-to-a-Nunnery

It’s been years since I read it and I don’t have time to skim through…

LOL. No. It was in a outdoor and the fence had those big sprinkler heads attached to the posts for easy watering.

Yup, that appears to be the one…

Then there was also this rather interesting one
