Devon Questions from a first timer

I’m here in Philly staying with a friend. Hoping to watch the Derby in the morning…this weather has been AWFUL

Hey guys,
We made it. Wednesday was terrible. Weather yesterday was much better. I won the Am road pony class, beat the pants off a 10 year old kid.

Pony was pretty funny, as we were standing in the make-up ring waiting for the class before us to finish up, as they were calling placing, he suddenly started dancing and just about took off. OK folks, my turn now, outa my way! It was the first class that I ever noticed him listening to the announcer. He heard ‘Road Gait’ and stepped up notch without being asked. He heard ‘Go at Speed’ and did his now habit ( :grimacing:) 2 canter steps before I pulled him down. Luckily the judge had his back to us. I’m working on pictures.

This is the funny part. After I shoe-horned my car into exhibitor parking yesterday morning, on my way out, I commented to the guys that I hoped they could drive a stick shift. Uh-Oh. I had to make a couple trips from the car to the barn. On one trip, the guys told me where they wanted my car (so they wouldn’t have to move it) and I moved it. And there it stayed.

Congrats!!

Congratulations! I have been helping my daughter in her booth all throughout the show so while I have been at Devon countless times over the years I haven’t been there from show open through the last class like this year. It’s kind of amazing how all those disciplines are at the same show. I guess that is part of the reason why it’s so special.

So few people know how to drive a stick shift now. I test drove a stick shift Mustang 8 liter convertible about 5 years ago. The salesman asked me to park it after I was done since he couldn’t drive it.

I was looking for a small car to tow behind my RV. Went to CarMax and stated it had to be under 3,000# and a manual transmission. The salesperson looked at me like I’d grown another head. Finally convinced him that I knew what I was talking about and can drive a manual transmission and have done so for many years. So much easier to hook up and tow - just put it in neutral, disengage the parking brake, and turn the key one click and you’re ready to go.
