And just how responsible is it for a place that is supposed to take in unwanted horses is breeding?[/QUOTE]
Oh for goodness sakes. It depends on the quality, no? From what I understand, at least one of the two stallions auctioned off is intending to be bred. By your logic, he should not be bred by his now-current owners either.
Honestly, I have taken in some incredible “unwanted” horses and would have no issue with breeding some of them given their superior quality. Not to mention the fact that while I may be taking in unwanted horses, I am not necessarily breeding said unwanted horses (if they are not up to par) specifically, I might be breeding other horses I currently have. For the record, I am not currently breeding, but just point out the obvious. I doubt I am the only one with such horses and Devorah may or may not be in such a position, but I doubt you know for a fact who and what she is or is not breeding and why or to whom. Not to mention it is unclear as to which horses she is breeding and which were “given” versus which were “purchased” (albeit perhaps for cheap). Not that any of that matters if the quality (etc) is there.
Like I said, I know virtually nothing of this situation so I am not necessarily standing up FOR Devorah, but this wolf’s attack is just sickening. Where is your common sense, people?? Horses DO lose weight quickly, the courts, legal system, and various societies can be a wreck to deal with, people DO work away from home and leave their animals in the care of others, and breeding in this economy may or may not be a wise decision, depending on the program.
I know of one situation where an individual’s animals WERE seized wrongfully. It has been well over a year now and a massive mess for this person to contend with, including jail time, despite their innocence. It sickens me to no end to know what this person is going through - I do not understand how they have been able to perservere through it all. To read the papers and listen to some people you would assume the individual in question were guilty. Luckily I know this person personally (have my ENTIRE LIFE) and KNOW otherwise. There are all sorts of loopholes and such and the SPCA/HSUS can be downright vindictive and illegal at times. That may or may NOT be what is occuring here, however how do any of us have an ACCURATE opportunity to judge?? I do not find it fair to judge someone based solely on heresay and individually-drawn conclusions.
Perhaps I am one of the only ones though.
Devorah, if you do not mind my asking. I do not really wish to be involved in this all however I have been following it to an extent and I am confused as to the timeline.
When did you leave, when were the horses seized and then later moved, when were the 9 returned to you, what is the time between all this, and when were each of those photos taken?? I AM a bit confused because I feel that the photos taken of the chestnut with the star and strip represented a horse a little overly thin in my mind for 36 hours without food - something that could have developed over a period of two weeks (had that happen to me recently) but not over the course of a day and a half without food. Is this the horse with previous problems (ie. the flipped spleen and such)? Or were those photos taken two weeks or so after seizure?
I am just legitimately curious. Either way, I am not here to judge, but that was really the only primary cloudy part to me I have been curious about. If you don’t mind humouring me. I am a very visual person so was sort of looking for a written/visual timeline, since it has been difficult to piece everything together otherwise.
Thank-you!!
