Diamant de Semilly semen/type of mare?

I know he has been discussed here before, but I can’t see to find the topic w/the search function…

Has anyone here used his frozen semen? I’ve heard the quality is excellent, but that was from multiple semen brokers, I’d like to hear it from someone else, too :).

Any other thoughts on him are welcome, as well!

What type of mare are you thinking of breeding to him? Just curious.

I look forward to hearing other’s responses. Maybe Andy will chime in.

My personal experience is rather limited, I saw his son, Kalaska, at WEG…I should go see if I still have the pictures.

Well, I haven’t decided yet! I’m waiting on more info. The filly I have in mind is just a long yearling and I don’t breed until three. But I was thinking of ordering now and hanging onto the semen, in case it gets more expensive than it already is.
This is what I have found about breeding to him::
________________________________________________________________ Mares to use with this stallion:
Diamant de Semilly is easy to breed. He brings lots of quality over fences, a strong back, a great balance, a lot of scope, a wonderful mind, and more “fire” than his sire. You cannot go wrong with Diamant! Mares close to blood do well, but his offspring show that he suits most types of mares.

What I’d like to know is what exactly does wonderful mind, more “fire” mean? The filly I have in mind is very blood in type and personality. She is intelligent and sensitive and probably will be a little hotter/more reactive under-saddle (but of course I won’t know that for sure until she is started). So I don’t need to add “fire” probably!

Plus there seems to be a discrepancy on price. I’ve talked to two different brokers; both can get me the semen this fall. One says $1350/dose, the other said $1500/straw/$6000 dose, so it doesn’t sound like we are comparing apples to apples there, does it? I’m waiting on clarification on that account…

I am pretty sure the folks at Aliboo farm had a foal by him from frozen.

we bred to him this year. we purchased the semen from a1 performance sires. We bought 4 straws but only needed 1. We bred a Cassini I holsteiner mare to him.

Diamant is a sure bet, he is passing all the qualities that are reported by his owner in the link below, the other link will show about 300 videos of his offspring.
You are right by “fire” they mean “hot blooded” so a mare too hot will be also suited to Diamant as he bring a cool mind.

If you can afford the cost, do not hesitate.

I love him.
He is my first choice for my A Fine Romance daughter (full sister to Advanced event horse, winning Grand Prix jumper and * event horse).

I sent you a PM

Hi Hillside- I received your PM but thought I would reply here since I have nothing negative to say.

Anne was great to work with. She reminded me 3 or 4 times that Diamant was sold by the straw but that the semen is good and 1 straw = 1 dose

I received the semen in April and everything went smoothly. I think I paid $1650 a straw. Maybe the price has gone down?

Best of luck, he is a great stallion

Looking through my papers I paid 1850/straw. The 1650 was for the Numero Uno.

Just an FYI- I used the semen on a 6 year old mare who had 3 foals in a row. Last 2 were with frozen semen. The mare has always caught on the first try. For the $$ I wouldn’t use it on a reproductively challenged mare
