Did anyone in Canton/Alpharetta GA lose an EMU?

Perhaps Emunity is on the way?

Funny you give them an hour or two to think about things (aka Time Out) and leave them without hay and suddenly everyone is a gentleman on the way back out!

Then again Damn Bird is back in the upper field away from my fenceline.

Maybe we are reaching an Emutional Compromise?

Just about the time I decide Damn Bird is ok, waddya wanna bet he leaves.

This morning when I left for work my horses were running around again and snorting at something they saw in the woods. I thought “Oh CRAP, that thing’s BACK!”.

I stopped my car and got out to check for Emu and was extremely relieved not to find one! They must have been looking at the bulldozer next door, which had just fired up for the day and was belching smoke. Normally those things don’t bother them with their noise but the smoke must have been scary.

And with the SAME emu no less! I am about 1/4 mile away from chez round pen as the emu struts.

I’ve boarded my horses with ostriches and emus and have never had that much of a problem. The birds were directly across from the ring so there were a few days of leading them to the ring and after that it was no big deal.

Give them a few more days. I’ve never heard of horses being PERMANENTLY fearful of unknown creatures…unless, of course, they’re likely to EAT them.

The one and only!

LMH- after reading about Damn Bird and then your yearling and gelding I have to come and visit!! (Of course we would not drink the water…I will bring the wine!!). Thanks for the laughs!

you forgot to add a webcam for all us COTH’ers. I think this plan should be given consideration

You can race Emus??? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

The horses were racing stock. The emus just hung out in the pasture. They were the nicest birds. You could pet them. They’d come right up to us in the pasture. They really aren’t anything to freak out over.

My plan would involve a stock trailer, coupla border collies and the front lobby of County Animal Control…

JMS-my neighbor and I thought of Richard first thing…the trouble is a) would Richard want to come play Rope the Emu (gack-that sounds like some kind of honeymooners game )

and b) i have been told if you aren’t careful where he gets roped, you can break his neck fairly easily.

Of course, if you happen to be checking your mail and the cowboys are hanging out branding local cats or something, you could always ask!

Party Rose-I am sad. So very sad.

No emu.

Only a tarp. It caused a spook-I guess they thought the emu was under the tarp.

No R rated experiences.

I am at a TOTAL LOSS!

And still keeping all of us very well Emused…although it’s looking like your neighborhood,s been pretty well Emu-used…

Hey! You found my EMU!!!

LOL! It appeared in MY pasture off of Union Hill Road on Sunday and stuck around until Monday. We tried to get Animal Control to take care of it but they “couldn’t find anyone to respond” on Superbowl Sunday (go figure). Our horses were beside themselves all day and wouldn’t even go down to drink they were so concerned.

I wonder how far he went … where are you located? Can I post pics on here? Am going to try …

Chasing it …

Hauling butt in the other direction …

Looks like it’s going for a ride …

Too funny!!!

Lovely farm…no wonder Emusement showed up…horse and rider heaven////No wonder the Emu’s want to move into the neighboorhood…

Checking in for (mental) health and safety update…both yours and the quivering critters…

Another emu sighting: reported in our local newspaper:

“A bedraggled-looking emu…wanders loose near Martinsville, Ind., yesterday.” </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I heard about that (my best friend lives in Martinsville). Aparently that emu had been loose for a month or so.

Now normaly, I’d say “Only in Indiana…” but it seems that stray emus are a global problem!

LMH - How are the horses today? Any new antics? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I have NOTHING for you NOTHING…no nursing, no damn birds…just a boring ole day at the farm.

Milo did get on his pedestal however-this pic I have posted before…this is a typical riding day…though it has interfered with our jumping a bit-now he just stops and tries to step on them all…

I was playing Trivial Persuit with my family over the weekend and my dad & step-mom got the question “What Color is an Emu Egg?” (green, in case you were wondering) - I was the one reading the question and started laughing when I saw it. They all thought I was a little nuts for finding a question like that so funny, but thanks to LMH’s Emu Problem, I can’t keep a straight face on anything emu-related anymore.

Gotcha! So there’s no way to embed graphics in a post. Thanks for the tip!

I think this is all just TOO funny … But I’m glad to hear someone else is taking care of the runaway emu! I was afraid it’d get hit by a car or something.

One thing to note - he/she does NOT like dogs and will attack. Almost got our neighbor’s dog when we were all standing out there gawking on Sunday morning. It’s not overly friendly when it feels threatened!!!
