Digestive or ulcer supplements - what works best?

I started using Uckele GUT for my gelding. No specific ulcer symptoms, but soft-ish poop that would get pretty loose under stress - not cow patties, but not really formed fecal balls either. The GUT seems to have helped and the consistency of his poops have improved and there is much less of a change when he is stressed.

Bonus - he likes the flavor so it helps hide his other supplements.

My vet recommended Egusin for my horse that is ulcer prone. She didn’t like me doing 3-5 days Ulcergard every so often to address concerns. I buy through Valley Vet on auto ship. Seems to do the trick as he doesn’t get pissy when I brush his stomach or put the girth on. I still give Ulcergard when we travel.

I switched to Smartpak’s leg up brand stomach pellet and have been super happy - I bought them when they had a coupon code for supps and I think they came to $0.35 a day so I was like, what the heck, I’ll give them a 90 day try. My guy has done better on the leg up stomach than he did on u-gard. He had no obvious symptoms of ulcers but is an ottb that competes, so I like to keep him on a preventative.

If he’s having no problems keep doing what you’re doing and skip supplements.

If he has a specific problem like ulcers, recurrent colic, or diarrhea, diagnose and treat that problem effectively.

Have used GUT; works OK, but I’ve had much better luck with 4 oz of cheapo aloe vera juice from Walmart with 2 level teaspoons of slippery elm bark mixed together and stirred into p.m. meal (horsie gets his Equioxx and pergolide suspension in the morning, and slippery elm can affect absorption of them so he only gets the SEB w/avj in his evening bucket).

Ordered FORCO once, and I’m convinced it’s nothing but original Diamond V Yeast repackaged in cute plastic containers with a hefty price tag stuck on it…looks like DVY, smells like DVY, and I believe the serving size was the same.
