DIY Quarter Sheets? Anyone Have Patterns/Measurements

Seeing these patterns makes me want to teach myself how to sew. Something tells me it won’t be that easy…
Any beginner tutorials out there? I want to make horsey clothes for me and the pony

I used a single layer of fleece. As noted mine isn’t a keyhole type so it is under the saddle with the front corners folded up and trapped between the bottom flap and the girth billets/girth. That keeps the front solidly in place. To keep the back in place I got some suspender clips and sewed a strip of elastic between them (okay, I got fancy and put on a plastic slide so I could adjust the length). This gets clipped to the back corners of the sheet to keep it around the horse’s bum. Using elastic allows it to be snug without hindering the horse’s movement.

Though I will admit to tying it down with baler twine before I devised the suspender clips and elastic strap.

A trick for hemming that I learned making, of all things, ‘rat cubes’ for my long deceased rats…

Attach the two layers together, ‘right side’ face to face with the other ‘right side’ (AKA the sides you want to show on top/bottom)… Sew all the edges, leave one corner unsewn – pull the entire fabric through this corner and flip - VIOLA, INVISIBLE SEAMS! It’ll be a PITA to do with a cooler because it’s a lot of material but if you’re patient should be easy enough, just time consuming.

Okay I explained it really badly - here, just go to this link - it’s for rat cubicles but the idea is the same:

I know exactly what you are talking about without theven video!! Grandma has made sure I know that amazing trick!

As of now, I think I may try this with 2 yards of extra wide fleece, then I can really work with making it wider if needed ( them wide quarter horses may need a bit more to cover their bums!)

Then in regards to the end needing weight, the hubby made an AMAZING suggestion, considering he is not a big horse person. He suggested I sew fishing weights into the bottom edge, or make small hooks in the bottom that I could attach or remove the weights as needed.

Suitability has patterns for such things.

I have made one that can be used wither under or over by putting a zipper down the top, with a piece of fleece under the zipper so it doesn’t rub. With a large hook and eye at the front end of the zipper to hold it closed when you have it over your legs.
