I know I am very late to this thread, but TheOtherHorse, the picture you posted of your stall is exactly what we are going for. We just got our pole barn kit in and once we get the pole barn up, we will be building stalls. I cannot find a floor lock mechanism like that. Could you tell me where you got your hardware? We have a couple of escape artists so I’d really like to do a floor bolt latch system on the stall doors.
Thanks for the reply! I have actually seen floor latches that you step on to dis-engage and unlock the sliding door. It’s just a bolt mechanism where the bolt latch goes through a hole. So, not the stopper I was inquiring about, but the latching system itself. I have a horse that can open any kind of latch she can reach, so far. We have to put a bungee cord on our round pen when she is in it and she can even get pins and clips out. I am always in disbelief. After she lets herself out, she goes around letting everyone else out. A floor latch on the exterior of the stall, that she could not reach from inside the stall would be great. I like them being able to put their heads out, so I don’t want to close up the stall door completely where she cannot look out into the hallway.
I also want something quick and easy with a sliding door, so I’m not having to fiddle with latches and locks for so long to get her in and out. I guess I’m trying to look for a convenient, safe, hack-proof system.
Goodness, what a mess those horses got themselves in! Fortunately, my Lady has never tried that in a stall or pen. She is super lazy, but has good mouth work on latches!! But you are correct, I wouldn’t want to press the luck! She has been in half-door stalls before with no issues other than having to tie halters around the door so that when she inevitably opened the latch, the door wouldn’t swing open for her.
