Do fancy anatomical bridles actually make a difference?

Just got the Schockemohel Equitus Delta for my cob sized TB (after trying the Full sized one her WB sister has on her) and man I’m frustrated. The TB has been solidly cob sized for 13 +years across every brand ever. Until now. The full size I initially tried on her, that belongs to the WB, was comically huge on the tightest holes everywhere. Naturally, I ordered her normal size cob. Color me shocked when I put it on her last night and it will barely fit on the loosest holes on the noseband and throatlatch (she is very refined so this is odd). Overall it’s just too small, but she was swimming in the full size. I love the full size for the WB - it fits her beautifully (she has a big but refined head).

Has anyone mentioned the Milestone Equestrian bridles? The leather quality is average but the ergonomic design is one of the best options I’ve seen, with very cut back crown piece, no flash and the ergonomic noseband style.

I believe she will also mix and match sizes for different bridle parts if you need a franken-bridle (my horses always seem to!).

I had one and the sizing was very, very off for my horses (at the time both were cob sized and the bridle fit neither).

The leather looks really cheap (to me) – and I frankly find her insufferable. Otherwise…

The bridles don’t fit well and look bulky and cheap in the photos? Why would anyone buy one? They look very similar to every other ergonomic bridle like the Passier, Kavalkade, and Tota.

Completely agree. She is obnoxious and condescending. And I am pro positive reinforcement and pro allowing horses to have a say in what’s going on.

I really love my Montar bridle. It’s expensive, but the leather is very good quality!

I have the Fig 8 Lyon on my mare and I chose it, because I really love the neck piece. If anybody is interested, I can take photos of it in detail tomorrow.

I personally prefer a design for horse comfort over quality/cost of leather and am always shopping for very budget-friendly tack items, so that’s why I would consider one for myself. :+1:

Sorry, poor wording on my part. I really meant to say why buy these bridles over another option in a similar price range? The design Shelby has on her site is not an original design and the first thing I noticed is that the bridles don’t fit in the photos. That’s just poor marketing.

Found this thread while looking for the «perfect» bridle, so many brands and bridles I haven’t seen before. I was about to order a Schockemohle Equitus bridle but after reading this thread I won’t, seems too much of a safety issue…

My horse heavily prefers his PS of Sweden Nirak, but I’d like to have more options. He has a Micklem that works ok but the fit isn’t optimal. I think he prefers the stability of the bit straps but I can’t find something that checks all the boxes.

We tried the Finesse bridle which is well-marketed but the leather felt really bad and the neckpiece made crinkly sounds  And it didn’t solve the issue that my horse doesn’t like long bit straps

Ideally I’d want good leather, padded neck piece with poll relief, a clean-looking bridle that’s dressage legal, short bit straps, and non-crank noseband. The new Stubben freedom looks great but the price is insane…

The Felix Buhler «Vision Space» bridle checks most of my boxes but the padding is synthetic and feels weird.

Found Evo Equine through this thread and these two look promising: Emperor and Evo Sports

I also ordered the Dyon X fit where the bit strap is attached to the same strap as the noseband which seems like it might offer some stability?

I’m not help, but am looking for the same type of bridle (though I need one without a flash). That Felix option looks like it could work, though I don’t love all the buckles as I feel they would be overwhelming on my TBs dainty face. The Emporer bridle is interesting, I can’t decide if I like the look but I do think it has some neat comfort based features.

One of those bridles has metal clips somewhere up near the eye. I’m not sure… But that might be illegal for USDF competition. Would be a good idea to check before ordering.

Pretty sure with all those metal rings it would not be legal… I’d definitely ask about it.

Note that an L grad (even with distinction) is NOT a judge. They are just qualified to go on into the “r” program and MAYBE become a judge.

No I got that, I just wasn’t clear . It’s sad/ridiculous to me that this person wasn’t Rando Trainer/Bystander and was in the judging pipeline at all!

I had switched to a Micklem some time ago, but it just didn’t fit him right, he has a short head, but quite a wide forehead, and very wide jaw, so I made adjustments to it, swapped out the browband that came with it, extended the nose band, etc.
The Collegiate comfi -tec looked interesting - with more flexibility in fit over his very wide jaw.
The quality is good, the fit is good, the price reasonable and most important, the horse seems to like it better, and is happier. Which makes me happier!

I actually came here to suggest the Comfitech - I have the Vogue. I bought it on a whim because it was on stupid sale and I wanted to update my dated, dusty jump bridle to something that had a more modern crownpiece and one that matched my saddle better (you know, all important reasons). I have to say, I love it. My gelding is very sensitive and can be super fussy, but he settled in beautifully and I don’t find myself encouraging his nose out as much. He would violently rub his face after untacking and he seems much more comfortable now. I like it enough, I bought one for dressage too.

Mine wanted to rub his face during riding and after untacking as well, and does it less with the Collegiate.

I bought two Milestone bridles to get one that fit correctly. Sizing is small (a.k.a. cheap). The leather smelled strongly of chemicals and I didn’t like the replies I got from the company. It smells fine now, and I’m selling the extra pieces at a tack sale this weekend.

Having said THAT, I use it lightly on my horse’s XC bridle and the short cheek pieces accommodated the universal bit very well. It’s aging ok.

I have a Tota Bimini that my horse likes just fine – with a non-flash noseband. I want to love it for the price, but the leather isn’t wearing as well as I’d like for the price.

I’m probably going to try out a Total Saddle Fit bridle. The price is not outrageous and I’ve really liked the other products – stability stirrups and a very cushy half pad – that I’ve gotten from the company. They advised me I could buy one bridle and swap out pieces for another size since my horse needs full size over her poll and across her brow, but cob length and noseband … and NO flash (she was highly offended at my tries with a Miklem).

My horse goes in a traditional dropped nose band bridle. I’m going to try this one:

Reviving for recommendations… I’ve been using the Passier Starlight for about two years, to no complaints from Pony, but I don’t love how the browband connects, or rather, where it connects… It looks like it’s sitting on a bony protuberance. Should I get over it (horse isn’t complaining) or try again, and if “try again,” with what?
