Do I want a Food Dehydrator? (for homemade treats)

Oh, DH would never dehydrate in the basement or garage! Not when we have a perfectly good kitchen. I’m sure dehydrating for dog treats would be less smelly because there wouldn’t be spices involved. Especially chicken. But maybe I’m wrong. I’ve thought about it, but have never taken the time.

And don’t get me started on cats not being polite about treats. Mine is a grade A jackass when it comes to food.

My sister makes jerky (human. Well, not made of humans, of course) by grinding the meat in her meat grinder with flavorings, then extruding it with a cookie press. It’s fast, easy and easier to chew. She has a dehydrator and it doesn’t seem any big deal for her to throw it in. She also does dehydrated fruit, fruit leathers and really great hot wings in her dehydrator.

I got a dehydrator at a garage sale for Braunschweiger. Makes great non crumbly treats. I do it on the back enclosed porch. Takes about 24 or so hours to dry. It’s very easy and the smells clear in a few hours. Trickiest part is slicing it up first.
