Do you carry a lead rope and halter in your daily driver?

I do not - and it has never occurred to me, since I live in NYC. However, this thread has convinced me that since I am out in horse country 6 days a week, I should be adding one to my car tomorrow!

I don’t but this occurred to me just the other day! My two wear large pony size halters which wouldn’t be much good for the average horse, so I should probably buy a rope halter so it’s a bit more adjustable and keep it in there. I do have a length of rope which would work in a pinch, plus a large assortment of tie down straps.

I keep a dog leash in my glove box because I end up needing it several times a year when I find stray/loose dogs on the road. Just a simple slip lead like they use at vet offices, etc. I figure that I can make it work for a horse, if necessary.

I have never yet needed to catch a horse on the road, but who knows. I certainly would stop and try for a horse! I honestly think it would be a once (or more likely never) in my lifetime event and I am not dragging around a horse halter and lead rope in my car in anticipation of it. Sorry, but I have a 2-door jeep with only an open cargo area vs an enclosed trunk and I just don’t like a bunch of random crap junking it up and rolling around. Other people seem to pride themselves in it, haha, which is fine but not for me!

I feel you on that…I’m a very practical person and like to have all sorts of but just in case items, but throwing them in the bed of the truck just has everything rolling around. I’ve got a dual cab so there is a backseat, but I don’t like having stuff piled up on there! Luckily mine has storage under the back seats, and the space behind them (the seats pop down), has a remarkable amount of space. Add the glove box and centre console and there’s a surprising amount of things you can fit.

For years I did, then I got out of practice. Then I got back into practice very, very fast: call while I was at work from my mom (who was bedridden at the time): ā€œBuddy is loose! I (she) just called 911!ā€. I made the drive home in record time. Almost destroyed the transmission too as I threw the truck into park. Picture four state troopers rather nervously circling a full grown Shire draft horse in the middle of the road. Have you ever seen a horse that you know is about a millisecond from an explosion? That tense eye, lip, neck, flat ear, and all of that coiled energy in the body? That was Buddy. He didn’t want to go anywhere, but he also didn’t know what to do. I don’t know who was happier to see me, him or the troopers! It was a long few seconds as I ran for the barn door and a halter!
For posterity, Buddy and DH:
