Do you charge a 'use fee' for trailer-pooling?

I’m not paying to fill the tank if they are hauling their own horse, too, and I wouldn’t let a guest fill mine. Their 75 gallons of diesel will not put a dent in my 36k truck and 46K trailer LOL. A tank of diesel would be charity  if I’m a guest I gladly offer gas money and pick out the trailer, don’t wipe cheeto dust on the seats LOL, and clean up after myself.

I hate working out of someone else’s trailer, and I don’t really like taking other folk’s horses to shows- I do my thing my way and that’s how I roll.

Drive yourself. Just tell them both you decided to drive yourself. Period, full stop.

I have never even charged for gas, although gladly accepted from those who offered. I also already have the trailer ready (bedded and hay bag hung, plenty of water and extra buckets for drinking and washing).[/QUOTE]

I’m riding with you

When I bought my first trailer, I only had one horse. The salesman tried to up sell me to a 3 horse with the added benefit of being able to haul other peoples horses. I immediately put a down payment on the 2 horse. And that held 1 more horse than I like to haul.

I’m curious about the “liability waiver” what’ the deal with that/ Does that supposedly release the owner/driver of any responsibility? Sorry not happening. I don’t sign waivers when i hop in a taxi. If you signed a waiver would you also be able to have person sign a waiver releasing you of any responsibility if your horse did some sort of damage - no i’m sure. So I’d not go with that agreement based on this waiver idea. I’d need to know more about the waiver

If you charge a stated fee, do a waiver, and other things that look “business like” then you are likely to be found “in the business of commercial shipping” and if that’s true and you have a mishap then the world is going to real complicated, real fast.

We’ve hauled other people’s horses to events from time to time. Never charged a fee, never asked for a waiver, or anything else. When asked “how much?” my answer was “whatever it’s worth to you.” Since I don’t associate with many jacklegs or schmucks I always got something that was fair.*

*When we boarded commercially I did have a fee schedule. Under the rules of that time I didn’t need a commercial license and my insurance covered the process. I’ve delivered horses we bred for a fee and that, too, is jake under the rules as I understand them.

I don’t get- why would their be a question of how/if to tell the trainer that you don’t want to pay her to haul for you. Just effing say it- I don’t want to trailer pool with her because I don’t want to pay the use fee. Period. End of sentence. Crap like this gives women in general a bad rep.

Most trainers in the Los Angeles area charge for hauling, but it’s usually a use fee OR splitting the gas, but not both.
