Do you think Hallmark has a card for this?

Care to enlighten us about this cat proof fencing stuff you are talking about?

Whatever do you mean? Chanticleer is EXACTLY the word I was thinking of. I might be cheap but I’m not vulgar

there are other brands as well. I sure wish MY neighbors would buy some, I can’t stand it when other people’s cats get squished in the road, are found by me dead and partly eaten by predators in my backyard, are seen peeing on and clawing up my patio furniture and so on and so forth.

all animals of all species should be kept securely on their owners properties. No excuses.

LOL Honi soit qui mal y pense

I have a hard time picturing that fencing holding up to any snow load.

Interesting idea though.

I agree. The neighborhood is loaded with loose cats and dogs. We sometimes let the chicken out to roam but mostly they are kept in coops.

Thanks for those links  I kept meaning to do a search for this for our upcoming project. The pig and cat yard. The pig is easy- since there are masonry walls already up. We just need a top portion to keep the cats in so they can enjoy the outdoors.

We have a ‘cat bouncer’ in our yard. All our cats are indoors but occasionally a neighbors cat will unfortunetly wander over the fence/wall into our yard and meet the PitX. She unfortunetly thinks cats are fabulous fun. Hence the nickname “cat bouncer”. She interestingly enough doesn’t pay attention to the chickens. She just likes cats- must not taste like chicken.

Jynx - you are more than talented! Good one.

Not real practical for a horsefarm. It would cost me $1,300 for the stuff under the deer fencing link for just my dog yard and I already have wire below. My cats also go under my gates.
I can’t imagine how much it would cost to fence a perimeter of even a 10 acre horse farm.
You would have to set it up so the cats can’t go through the barn to go down the drive. Most farms have cats to patrol the barn & the farm for mice.
This stuff might be fine for a nice small suburban yard.

I think she meant the word that rhymes with ‘doc’[/QUOTE]

Oh! In that case:

The rooster wandered off from his flock
To the pasture, where he got a shock.
One horse asked, “Shall I?”
But the other let fly.
No rise left in that poor gamecock.

Here’s a simple apology

Sorry about your cock

Said to the man of the house

they also sell invisible fences for cats that would be economical for a large yard and would keep the barn cats from getting killed by cars. I didn’t suggest them for the OP because such a fence wouldn’t solve her chicken problem.
Free-range chickens don’t actually have to be totally free you know, they can roam around within some kind of fenced area and be safe and non-nuisances while still having free-ranging ability. My neighbors keep their chickens in a pasture with three-board fence with chicken wire stapled along the inside.

Well, I would guess that a fence keeping a cat in (or out) would also work on a chicken.

Also, I would think that a cat fence could be errected with materials already found at a hardware store. As long as the holes are too small for cat to get through and the material does not provide support to climb…

Invisible fence for cats sounds intriging, however, my cats constantly strip their collars…

Brilliant!
I think I may have wet myself a bit…

Wow. I’m gone for 2 days you and you guys go mad with poetry. I love it! I will be printing this out for future use since…sigh…yesterday I caught my young horse with a chicken in his mouth, and not one of my chickens. >.> The chicken was alive though, and after I yelled at Wakerdoodles, he dropped it. No harm no foul…fowl? lol. Basically he picked the roo up by the tail feathers and was about to fling him when I caught sight of him.

The neighbors have not said anything about their roo, so I think I may be off the hook. Woo hoo!

Fencing in the cats would be hard and incredibly expensive with my amount of land, but I have thought about putting up wood privacy fence attached to my pipe fencing to block the view from the neighbor’s house and backyard. I like Alagirl’s idea…lol, complete with sentry tower.

Now I have peed myself :o

RTR:
The mental picture of your boy ChickenFlinging did me in

For the sake of my hens I hope this sport does not catch on.
I have a 12h Pony who would probably excel & make the Major League in record time :uhoh:

I need a horse like that to escort me into the chicken run some mornings. All I can do is punt them, which somehow has the same effect as bouncing a wrestler off the ropes. They just hurl themselves right back at my leg.

This is why I stay up reading COTH until 2 AM! COTH is my stress buster.

OP, you never saw a roo, and you never saw your horse practicing for his new career as a chicken plucker. Your neighbors sound like the type to make your life even more hellish if they think they can hold someone else responsible for their own stupidity.

Paint, Jynx, and Trak… I just don’t know how what to say. I am totally envious and in awe of your evil genius.

Blitzen the Rooster

The neighbor’s rooster was called Blitzen,
Until RTR’s horses did splits him,
The COTHers said NAY,
Build a new fence, Oi-vey,
And the cat issue just doesn’t fits in…
