Does anyone own a horse box?

Very pretty. Still way out of any horse transport budget I would ever have.
I clearly need to win the lottery. (Which would require me to play the lottery but no spare money to play the lottery so… no fancy horse van for me.)

My good friend bought one that was made in Oregon and they shipped it to Newark airport, so she could pick it up there. She paid about $60K brand new. she can haul 2 huge horses in it. She loves it. i believe hers is Equitrek.

The one I saw local to me was a small 3H - it had three parallel stalls at the back of the box, and was on a 550 chassis with a manual 10 or 13 speed trans (I don’t recall and can’t find the ad now). It was pretty low mileage, only asking $4k, but the top-heavy design and the potential to be a money pit maintenance wise made it a big no for me. Who knows how well it was taken care of - people often don’t even maintain the cars they drive every day, so an occasional-use vehicle is not usually going to get the royal treatment.

Yeah I think if your daily driver is a small low MPG car and you live in a populated area, it might make sense to buy a van vs a truck and a trailer which combined would cost more to buy, take even more space to park, and have perhaps a higher cost to maintain etc.

I have a little daily driver that gets 50+ mpg and saves me about $1000 a year on gas vs driving a truck. And a 4Runner which Ive had foevere, so I bought a european trailer for trailering. I get that some people need a huge truck for farm work, but I’d bet the majority of people with big trucks don’t need them, except to have a place to hang their truck nuts

You can not buy an older safe two horse with no tack room for $4K around here.

Yes I’m super excited to do this! I’m going to make a tiny tack room/bathroom combo in the front and then have two straight loads. The side door will allow for unloading without backing up. I have three horses all in the 15h range so the 6.5 ft tall ceiling is no issue for me. I’m going to put A/C in the horse area too, so I can put a blow up mattress in there for camping.
It’s a great choice for me because I actually run another business that really needs a van to haul stuff so it will have dual purpose. It should pay for itself in about a month!
Everyone says the promasters are amazing. I know I’m crazy but I’m still gonna try it haha

I very recently looked at a 2-3h model (convertible, the way a lot of these were) on a 1990 GMC Topkick chassis. Honestly I should have bought it, the reason I didn’t had nothing to do with the operability of the vehicle - It was how narrow and steep the ramp was. I had forgotten about the fun of handling those super-solid ramps by yourself at 4 in the morning, and didn’t want a repeat.

My trainer is sponsored by Equitrek and I think about a Vision Excel about every third day. I just can’t justify the price. I wish I could.

Stormy Day - I just bought a Joolca shower and am loving it. You can feel pretty civilized if you have a hot shower and a cassette potty.

https://www.joolca.com/ Works for horses too.

Yes something like that is 100% happening. It’s just too hot here to not be able to take a shower and cool off and clean up. I need this. Plus a toilet. Im not sure if I’m gonna go with one of those battery operated flush toilets they have that you dump when you get home, or splurge and put in a actual black tank and a toilet.

I am not ashamed to admit I took a shower in the wash stall at HITS Culpeper last weekend

Jumping on this thread- has anyone looked into importing a horsebox from europe into the US? I see lots of used but good condition horseboxes for sale in the UK and EU, going for 25-35k (usd). I can’t imagine the cost of insuring and shipping one over to the US would cost more than a new one here, but I wouldn’t even know where to start the process.
