Does anyone regret their Dubarry (or DB knock-off) purchase? (update post 184)

I love my Dublin Pinnacles. They’ve held up well to abuse and little care. The adjustable sides are nice.

Happy riding,
Jessie and The Stinky Pony aka Bosco

OK… I have to make my choice TODAY in order for them to ship in time. I HAVE to have some boot within 2 weeks.

I love the Dubarrys (of course, after having one pair already). I would need the extra fit.

Questions:

Any other wide fit calved boots out there? I’m a 16.5" calf.

Dover Middleburg states 16.5" calf on their boot but Dover rep said they run slim and may not work for me. Not in stock in store - so I’d have to ship them to try on.

Fuller Fillies - I know they would fit but I don’t like the plain look of them. Will buy them if I have to.

That’s all I can find in a big-girl calf. Anyone have experience with the Middleburgs that has a calf my size?

I can technically afford the Dubarrys - but having a hard time putting the money out when a knock off would serve my purpose just as well - if I could fit into them!

eta - I got my first pair of dubarrys at Rolex before they were sold in US. Paid full price. Haven’t been to dubarry tent since. I will be at Devon this year and thought of buying the dubarrys there. Do they have them on sale at the Devon booth? If so I will buy them there. If not, I will order them now to avoid paying tax.

I’m still kicking around the idea of these two instead of “real” Dubarrys.

I’d love to go for authenticity, but budget-wise…eek!

I noticed the Kanyons - but they wouldn’t ship here to the US fast enough. :frowning:

Well, what did you decide???

Tried the Dubarry’s - gorgeous boot - but they do.not.fit me or the kid, so no way would I spend that kind of money on a boot that floats around on my foot … the knock offs are no where near as nice leather or workmanship & fit even worse, so again, absolutely no temptation there.

Now if Dubrarry offered half sizes & widths, I’d absolutely buy them re climate suitability :sigh:

Jen-S,

I ordered both the Middleburg and the Dubarry. Depending on the quality / feel of the Middleburg and IF they fit my calf, I’ll send the Dubarrys back. If they don’t fit or are crap - I’ll keep the dubarrys. Will keep you posted. Both should arrive next week. I was hoping to get them at Devon on sale, but doubt they post sale prices there.

Don’t suppose you’d be willing to post pics of them both (side-by-side) when they arrive, would you?

Sure!

Just wanted to update this.

Smartpak currently has the Fuller Fillies country boot at 1/2 off so I ordered 2 different sizes to try. They are going back tomorrow. Color me very unimpressed with the quality. Plus the lining was out of a material that won’t slide, so getting a pants-covered leg into the boots was nigh on impossible. I can’t see the lining holding up long, nor can I see having to argue with a pair of boots other than my field boots which have loops for my boot pulls (yes, I still have non-zippered boots…I’m old. And cheap.). So, I’m going to scrounge the $ and order the Galway extra fits and be done with this. It’s only money, right?

I love my Dublins! And I got them on TOTD for half off, so I love them even more!
It was interesting though…my daughter also got a pair. Mine however, were different in that the inside leg is designed like a half chap, whereas hers weren’t.
I am happy mine came that way, as I do ride in them! All the time. I had a blood clot in my left leg 2 years ago and as a result, that leg gets swollen by the afternoon, which is when I usually ride. I cannot get my Vogel’s on that leg, so I am very happy that I can ride in the Dublins.
And yes, they are very waterproof!
I like that I can wear them for riding and around the barn, and wear them with jeans around town!

I too would like to know this! I’m waffling about putting something like these on my Christmas list, but I have a 13" calf! I’m used to things being too short for my 19" height, but being able to fit another leg in the calf with me would suck :frowning: And I’m a size 11 foot, which means the calf width goes up even more so you can fit 3 legs in with me :frowning: Do any of these run on the narrow-calf side?

The Dubarry is worth the money. They last forever and if you take care of them they look great. I wear them every day this time of year and they get GROSS in the barn. I hose them off, or wipe them with a damp rag and use the Dubarry cream…They look like brand new - or good enough to be ‘fashionable’, or as fashionable as I get anyway, for a trip to town. They are made of quality materials and seem to last, which means you shouldn’t have to replace them any time soon, thus worth the money. Happy shopping!!!

I have slim calves too. While these boots aren’t fitted, they aren’t so baggy that they are annoying. I do wear a smaller shoe size, but if you order from SmartPak you can send them back if you don’t like the way the calf fits.

The Dublin Pinnacles, which I got as an early (September) Christmas gift, are OK on my calves, but not tight. They fit well over jeans. My calf is around 14 or 14.5 inches. The height is OK, too, but not as high as tall boots. I mainly wear them for trail riding in a bareback pad, to do chores, and around town, so the height works fine for me. They have height and calf width on their website.

I really like them, although the foot and ankle are a little wide for me. They are still very comfy and I can put on thick socks. I might put something in the foot bed, too, but haven’t gotten around to it.

My husband loves them and thinks they are very sexy;)

Thanks, bacchus!! I do like the looks of those!

Um. Yeah. I have 3 pairs of Dublins (River boots in tall and short, and the Pinnacles) AND the Middleburg knockoffs, and am currently coveting the fuzzy-lined winter Middleburgs. All of them are comfy and have held up well to fairly frequent wear (and still look fabulous with skinny jeans when I clean them up). On the other hand I don’t ride in them - none of them fit right to ride in except maybe the Middleburgs which are taller and skinnier, but they don’t have a calf patch. I love ALL of them and get compliments every time I wear them.

I have the knock off Dublins. Love 'em. I did get the mid height boots because I wasn’t sure about the calf, and I have 15.5 inch calves :(. Unlike most folks, unless I’d tredging through deep mud, I put them under my jeans. Very snuggly.

Oh man, I hate my Dubarrys! They didn’t fit quite right when I bought’em, but they were sort of cute and I thought I could doctor the fit with the right socks. Naturally that didn’t work out. And not only that, there is absolutely no arch support in these boots. It’s like strapping a couple of boards to your feet. After a couple of hours in these boots I’m like, “Jeeves! Bring me the sedan chair!”

Don’t believe the hype!
