Yes, when I come to the barn to ride before it gets light in the morning, at least one of my mares is often laying down. They both lay down more when their stalls are plush with fresh shavings. My warmblood is famous for her snoring, and will sometimes be flat out in the middle of the day having a loud snooze.
I’ve shown up at the barn to ride and several times I’ve gotten there and Odin is fast asleep. Once I felt so guilty I couldn’t bring myself to wake him up and left and came back later. I know I hate to be woken up and made to do something so…
This is a pic I took some years ago when I and three friends were camping. It was after we got back from our ride and all three decided it was a good time to nap. That’s Woodrow in front with Milo to the left and Hannah to the right.
Just proves that men cant live w/out women to take care of them
My TB took regular naps in sternal position right outside his stall.
He’d also go flat out, as evidenced by shavings bedhead.
His TWH pal did the same.
My current 3 also lie down, both in their stalls & in my pastures.
Most often sternal, but flat too.
My horse is out 27/7. He lays down to sunbathe almost every day late morning. Twice, FedEx drivers told the BOs “I think you have a dead horse”.
When he was young, he was in a pasture with another young mare. They laid full out all the time together. Eventually, they got a retired mare who said “SOMEONE has stay awake and look for predators, grasshoppers!”
Her snores remind me o fthe movie Jaws! Hahahahaha!!
Mine usually nap mid-morning every day. I took this photo recently of all three (the baby is nearly hidden behind her big sister). Notice that the neighborhood guinea - he is NOT mine, though he spends his days here - was on guard duty.
they all must feel safe!
Love the white splashes on the tum-tum.
