Dausequin has ASUs, avocado- soybean unsaponifiables, which showed really impressive chondroprotective results in a CSU study (and others, I’m sure). I think it’s technology they would like to incorporate into equine treatment, but my distant memory was that it was prohibitively expensive in the amount horses needed.
For oral supplements, I love green lipped muscle and a good omega 3 such as Camelina Oil. I used these on my 13+ year old lab an noticed a HUGE difference in his mobility. I actually stopped them once as I thought that they weren’t doing anything, and he went slowly on a decline. I started them back again, and he was moving better within a couple of weeks.
I’m sure salmon oil, herring oil etc would would work too, I just have Camelina Oil on hand as I use it on my horses as well.
My Aussie has a partial acl tear which healed without surgery, and has had various issues with various legs all her life. Her vets, including the best orthopedist in the area, recommended daily Dasuquin with MSM; she’s been taking it for years. She is 11 now, and can hold up on a 7 to 10 mile trail ride still (longer than ten miles I try to leave her at home and just take my young dog).
thanks for clarifying! And they do make cosequin ASU for horses, my old guy is on it!
Yeah, it might have been the cost for a different route of administration, but honestly it’s been so long since I read the study, I might just be totally imagining things… Or maybe the price went down a little bit!
Thanks!!!
