yes, not carb-free.
We’ve had excellent results on Fromm kibble as well. They have both grain and grain free options. We’ve fed the four star chicken version w/grain for the last several years and our dogs thrive on it.
For reference, we have Greyhounds, Standard Schnauzers and Jack Russells. The schnauzers and jacks free feed.
Several at my barn feed SportDog kibble, which I’ve used in the past (have switched to raw and just have a small bag of Origin for bobbles, like when the raw I put in the fridge is still frozen 12 hours later). Very nice super helpful people; lots of options for protein etc levels and ingredients. Not inexpensive, but the recommended feeding amount is less than many cheaper foods.
A few weeks later update. Have been feeding Orijen six fish. Mini poodle considerably less itchy. GSD a but better. Orijen is grain free, we’ll be switching to arcana, made by Orijen but with grains. Better safe than sorry.
Said it can take 6-8 weeks to see a difference. Said it could be environmental. Gave me dosing for Benadryl. I’m not going into hundreds or thousands in allergy testing, nor did they Encourage that.
Just has an $1,100 cat urgent vet, and a $5,500 emergency eye surgery on my toy poodle.
Have I mentioned I took insurance out on GSD pup … LOL
Neeko is 20 weeks. Gets his last set of vaccines next week. They want them over 20 weeks for parvo. Black and Tan dogs are more susceptible to parvo if given under 2o weeks.
He is 52 lbs of clumsy teenaged puppy. Who will be starting obedience training and breed ring too. Was hoping to get him in the 4-6 classes, but I can’t, hubby has surgery tomorrow, show this weekend.
He’s doing good,
I gave up in commercial kibble long ago. I switched to Just Food For Dogs. It was expensive but def worth it. Real food, not processed bs. Poops are smaller too.
I’ve never heard that. Interesting.
My vet has also said this - but he said its mostly due to poor breeding. I’m not suggesting your guy is poorly bred - all three of our shepherds have great lines but we still chose to wait.
We have three Shephers and a Chinese Crested. One shepherd is older and internalizes, so we have to manage her stomach (she actually gets beet pulp - per vet recommendation) Another has horrible skin allergies that we boiled down to chicken sensitivity. Chicken allergies are common in dogs, especially common in Shepherds. Our other shepherd is easy peasy and requires no special considerations. Our Crested was a rescue so we fight a good fight keeping her healthy. I have tried at least 6 food and you know what makes them all happy? Purina One True Instinct Venison and Lamb. When it breaks, I’ll fix it, but all four of then have been doing fabulously on it for the past 10 months or so.
They get a dollop of greek yogurt and a handful of blueberries with every meal. They’re happy and healthy and our vet always sings us praises. Our oldest is 11 and has no signs of dyplasia and can still keep up on trail rides/hikes. The only thing that gives away her age is her evolving intolerance to cats.
