Dog Poops A Lot? -- New Question

Revisiting this. Lady at the best-stocked local pet store recommend L.I.D. Venison and the dog detests it. So, I’ve ordered Orijen Adult from Chewy.com. Is that considered a ‘good’ food?

I’ve never heard of the dry food keeping a dog hungry because of lack of water. We really can’t afford wet food on a long-term basis. Would wetting the kibble be appropriate?

I nearly always soak their pelleted food - hot water, sits for 10 minutes. They seem quite happy with the arrangement…and poo accordingly. Apparently.

Oh, and we feed Costco’s Kirkland pelleted beef, I think it is this time, or sweet potato and salmon.

I can soak, that’s no problem. We don’t have a Costco and he hates fish, so hopefully this Orijen is good stuff…

I might as well buy him real meat.[/QUOTE]

You should!! I feed my cats prey model raw now and they poop significantly less and the poops are smaller and less smelly. I find that they aren’t as hungry and I’m saving money too because the high quality kibble/ wet food is more than me purchasing meats and organs. Sure it takes time finding sources and time learning about it but in the end it was worth it for me. Both of my cats are now at healthy weights (both were obese), I spend less on their food, their coats are nicer, and they poop less.

Orijen is one of the best quality kibbles available, IMO. Excellent food

I add water to my dogs meals. No need to soak for any length of time, but you can if you want.

If your dog is doing fine on what he eats, keep feeding him that. If he poops 3 times, he poops 3 times. I think there is a lot of over thinking going on. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it. Dogs eat meat. Dogs also eat other things. Ours love chowing down on any bucket of corn or horse feed they can get their noses into. We have had many dogs over the years and they have all lived healthy to ripe old ages. If your dog in not doing well on a particular dog food…change it.

We had one on a high quality, high priced dog food and he didn’t grow a winter coat. Changed to a farm store brand and with in 3 weeks there was a lot of improvement. Price is not always an indicator as to what works with YOUR dog.

For the record we have one that will poop once a day and sometimes misses a day. The other poops numerous times. Same food.

I was going to just roll with what he had but he’s started itching and chewing on himself since eating it so I figured it was time to make the switch…
